Not only is this as restyle it is also one that I do have some early progression photos. Some of them are not real good, they are film not digital but they can show you the early progression of the tree dating back to the late 90's when it was started from a 3 gallon nursery tree.

Nice Vance. Do you have plans to address the surface roots?

In a word yes. What and how is the question yet to be answered. Did you look at the second posting in this thread?

What is the issue with the surface roots?

I really like the second pic in the post, roots and all.

They really are not the traditional wheel spoke nebari formation that is looked at as favored formation. This tree has that form starting to form but the odd roots it has now will have need to be resolved into this new spread, hard to see now but they're there.

I understand now, but lots of trees naturally form roots more to the windy side for stability. If you could change the angle a bit to perhaps take advantage of that impression?

I'm not sure which picture you are referring to. Because of the size of the photos I was not able to post all of this trees history on one thread, I had to spread them over a second post which I have not noticed anyone responding to as yet..

I do appreciate your input and hope it continues.

Didn't see that post. You can reply to your own thread here on this forum and post more pics, so you can keep it all in the same place...
I'll go look at the other thread.

I have loved trees my entire life and use every opportunity to look at , examine and study trees either at work or during leisure activities and I have yet to see a single tree in nature with "the traditional wheel spoke nebari formation that is looked at as favored formation" most have either some one sided nebari, or most usually no nebari on or at the surface, sometimes maybe just the hint of the surface of a root poking out of the grass. I think nebari, although very good looking in certain trees, is very over-rated and in most cases it looks very contrived or should I say unreal looking. I think if a plant exhibits nebari then its a fine addition to the plant, if not the attempts such as root grafts are really a waste IMO as far as either neccesity or function is concerned.

I did and just posted a note there. Most of the Mugo's I've seen posted here are from nursery containers, hence the roots. If you can slowly reduce the smaller roots to the old roots, I'll be very interested in seeing how you proceed and the end results.
