Aluminum vs Copper Price Wise

Sorce,

I also use true [ make ] bronze [ sn/cu ] and at a smaller mm. It stiffens better for smaller projects, but I make it. Both as red and yellow.
Trinidad, unlike the other islands, has an oil based economy, we have wells, and also refine, we are industrial, and so copper wire is still
fairly easy to get. We don't really do Tourism.

Anyhow Anthony is or will be in England and then later Italy at his family's homes.
He was unable to provide images of us drawing wire, as, well we have never taken photos of us doing it - why would we ?????
He may make an appearance, but will be scarce for several months, especially since he is retired and his three sons, are all schooled.

I spent some time studying / developing Jewellery Alloys and use the information for making mostly rings, but I cannot share the images of my work or the alloy formulas due to the nature of the Internet. I believe you would understand this as I gave Anthony permission to share with you the visual information on I believe my house's floors.
I also asked him see if he could send the images directly to you and not BSG's email service.

I use and was taught Ling Nan, clip and grow, by my cousins in China, my grandfather was from Canton, and I have family around that area, plus help from Japanese and Italian folk as well. I studied Fine Art in Florence. By combining the clip and grow with wiring on younger specimens, I can bypass the scarring many folk get.
This is my 35th year or so in Tree penjing [ since I don't fully follow the Japanese Bonsai way, which makes my trees weird, and also because they are based on drawn examples of mature plants in nature ] Anthony has about 25+ years in the craft.

Anyhow if you see him suggest ideas, but no images, it is because they are my personal research, inventions or information passed on by my cousins.
There is too much copying on the internet, too much lifting of ideas, and in the area of Fine Art, it is considered to be especially bad form.

Apologies to the group this is off topic.
Laters.

I don't really care, but it seems to me that this is a great excuse, in someone's mind, to establish why nothing ever gets posted except ----- well what ever we have been treated to by Anthony. I agree with Graham Potter: He said why would you want to create beautiful bonsai and just have them sitting around in your back yard. They should be shown off. Of course there are those who talk about creating bonsai and there are those who create bonsai.

Sorry, I just threw that in cuz of the TV show. Never watched it, but figured it was bad!

Didn't figure it was that bad.

Wrong thread!

We got slaves here too. Sugar slaves in Florida. Bring em here, pay em $2/hr, when they get hurt, not if, when, let em go into the drug trade, cuz they got nothing else, arrest them, put em in the industrial prison complex. More slave labor!

Hey they should draw us wire!

I hate slavery, I been looking for a poem I wrote about it for the poetry thread.

Who the Hell on this site is comming down on the side of slavery? I know, I just want to see if there are some here that look at things the same way I see it.

slaves in Florida
Illegal aliens.
They get what they deserve. We should be turning those rafts and boats around and making them paddle back to wherever they came from. Or the ISIS riff raff can slip in like in Europe. Probably already have because for some stupid reason illegal aliens have rights too. What the hell is that?
Don has some solutions for all of that though when he becomes President.

Lol. Go to Gregory beach!

People think he's not gonna win.

I of course, think It's already in the cards.

Same as they let Obama win to change our thoughts. Hit the free reset button.

Free. Only thing free....is my wire!

We are all slaves......they just pay us and let us think we control our lives.
Same like a mouse in a cage thinks it's in control of its life. It just doesn't realize it!

Mmm, water....hmmm food!

I know many of you are Democrats and, I run the risk of starting something I wish I had not. But if what you implement or contend that we should implement, can be defined by the back door as slavery; then you are in favor of slavery. The immigration policies of the Democrat party, who are willing to take all of the resources you have worked for and saved for as an American citizen; and give it to these illegal aliens just so they (Democrats) can build a supper majority that will take the Republicans 100 years to over-come. They are in essence putting together a program that puts you and I into slavery. The Republicans are not exempt here. Many Republicans are in favor of the level and nature of the immigration policy now taking place (open the door and flood the country) for access to cheap labor. A pox on both their houses. In the cheap labor and the potential votes are men with guns in their hearts.

Let's throw something else into this fire:

Where is the best place to buy alluminum wire cheap in several guages?

Uh, if you guys want to talk politics, take it to the tea house, please.
Went from price of copper versus aluminum to making your own to blood diamonds to slavery to people slipping across the border to become slaves to politics.
I'd say we are right on track.
I cut most of my wire off in chunks. With channellock wire cutters.

So, you don't try to reuse it then.

For those that do unwind copper and want to reanneal it, I've heard, and seen it done, to grab each end of the wire with pliers. Any old kind will do. And jerk it so that it straightens out. You won't get every little curve out, but it gets most of it. Then, after its annealed again you have mostly straight pieces of wire to work with.

To steer this somewhat back on track, I think the original post was an interesting comparison and makes good cents.

I personally haven't bought much bonsai wire as I have another 3,000 feet of 12 AWG wire in my basement from when I built my house. I did all my own wiring. The first roll I bought was about $75 for a 1000 ft roll of 12 AWG romex , but I noticed the price was climbing fast, the next roll was already $90 so I bought extra. I was glad I did, by the time I finished my house copper wire was $250 for the same 1,000 ft roll. I haven't checked lately, but it probably got much higher.

I cut to 20 ft lengths, strip insulation, yealding three strands, and anneal in my grill or with a torch. Works Great for me.

I also worked in a wire pulling factory in my college years (Cominco American). I ran one complete room with several machines. My job was to start the wire pulling process on each machine and make sure it continued to run all day. It was a very simple process and would be easy to duplicate at home. We started with "wire" of about pencil thickness, Ran it simultaneously through a series of dies, drawing it down to hair thickness. I have a wire draw plate and may try this with my 12 AWG sometime this winter in order to get some smaller sizes. A 20 ft length of 12 AWG would yield about 50 ft of 18 AWG.

You will still need to anneal this stuff, the construction industry doesn't concern itself as to the flexibility of the wire. In the industry you are not making that many really detailed maneuvers you need to accomplish in bonsai.

If we had the money that any politicians wasted on self gifting, we would all have good lives, free healthcare, and all the Bonsai wire we could use.

Programs for illegal aliens, and many other things can be afforded to us if these BONSAI killing slugs weren't so greedy.
