2021 National Bonsai Exhibition - Sept 11-12

I wonder if it would be possible to do a rotating share of a ticket, as long as the second person also paid Bill for the entry fee. I know that Bill (my husband) will not want to stay in the building the whole weekend, so if that would work at least one more person could be there part of the time. I would also consider doing that with mine, although it would be hard to say what times I would want to be in the event. I am thinking there may be others who might consider the same.
Edit, when I said the second person on the rotating ticket if there were such a thing, would pay Bill for the entry fee, I was of course talking about Bill Valavanis, not Bill my husband. Didn't want anyone to be confused.
sounds illegal almost. false advertising

there are people to blame, countries, organizations, but were not at the point to address it yet.
It's a moving target, how can you possibly level blame when the rules and circumstances keep shifting. We are lucky that this show is even possible at this point. I imagine that no one is more frustrated at this point that Bill Valavanis and the others who help to organize this event.

i hear you. cant pinpoint or address blame currently with the world burning - but it doesnt mean it isnt out there and wont get addressed at some point.

US/China/WHO, etc...

and if theres no one to blame, if natural, then it even furthers my opinion that we cant hide or regulate it. let it run its course. let it take humans out. but let us be free for the end of it. i believe we can choose to live and die (life short anyway) or not live and die

Nope, sorry - no takebacks! It was obvious you meant your husband :D

For God's Sake Just quit it. Bill Valavanis didn't misrepresent ANYTHING. He posted there would be limits because of local and state ordinances. The fact people didn't heed that is THEIR fault, not Bill's. There is no reason to run down one of the most respected bonsai businessmen in the community.

oh i didnt mean to do that - it sounded like someone said it wasnt posted anywhere, in which case my quote is true
if it was and they missed it, my point isnt true and they should be quoted about it

all good too, im sure he is a great guy and this situation is a complete s show; not easy
and if this is in NY (unless just city) they arent letting anyone in restaurants or inside places without
proof of vaccine. as of 3 or 4 weeks ago. which mean no one under the age of 16 could attend?

im part of the strategic management and decision making for our organization as well

Just for reference...I am unaware of any current state or county-wide requirements for proof of vaccination. I suppose individual establishments could require if they so desire.

There is a large outdoor art festival in Rochester (Clothesline for those who may be familiar) the same weekend. This year they have restricted attendance and I believe they are selling tickets for 1/2 day - entry at 8 (or whenever) and 12 (or something like that). They are asking people to leave at the end of their time slot but I don't know if they will be enforcing that or counting, etc. So far I have not heard that this type of timed entry will be occurring at the Bonsai show.

The Bonsai show is in a large domed sports park (basically 2 indoor soccer fields). A big space, lots of air but still...inside. So health department requirements are probably more restrictive compared to an outdoor venue. However, I have no idea what those rules currently are, or if they could change at the last minute. I am not involved at all in show set up or prep this year so have no inside information.

NY did recently announce you have to prove at least 1 dose vaccine to go inside a restaurant and other indoor venues.
the kicker is i dont know if it is just for NYC or for the entire state

whats wild to me is that means no one under the age of 16 can go eat or inside places in NY(C)

Would you stop stirring the pot with unneeded BS. All you have to do is go to International Bonsai site AND READ WHICH RESTRICTIONS are in place--state and local county. NYC is pretty damn far from Rochester.

US National Bonsai Exhibition

SOLD OUT!

Thank you for your interest in the 2021 7th US National Bonsai Exhibition.

Unfortunately, due to facility limitations and covid protocals, all weekend passes and daily tickets are sold out. We would like to accommodate everyone, but cannot. During the past few days, an overwhelming multitude of entrance tickets and banquet tickets requests came in and we have now reached the limit. People should have purchased tickets earlier, before making hotel and plane reservations. We have and will continue to observe all NYS and County COVID regulations. Tickets will NOT be sold at the door (none available!) if you did not purchase an admission ticket you will not be allowed in the building and sales area. We must carefully monitor the number of people in the facility which includes the sales area.

Everything has been changing since the COVID pandemic. Although I feel bad limiting attendance, I’m thrilled that we can EVEN hold the event. I don’t want to be shut down during the exhibition so must follow regulations. For those who missed their opportunity to attend this year’s exhibition, a 7th US National Bonsai Exhibition commemorative album, featuring all the displayed bonsai, will be published.

Trees from the Noga collection features many deciduous bonsai including imported Korean hornbeams, a large Yaupon holly, Ginkgo forest and a large (8” trunk!) imported Satsuki azalea. Pine bonsai are also featured as well as a large indoor Brush Cherry and Olive bonsai. The Seiju elm stock plants used for decades to make cuttings are for sale with heavy rough bark. The tops can easily be air layered and the bottom retrained for bonsai.

GREG COLLECTION

A few weeks ago I was fortunate to purchase the entire bonsai collection of over 100 trees from a student who took my classes in 1984 and will be moving. The Greg collection includes some pretty spectacular unique well developed specimens, several unusual, like Buckthorn and White Birch. Many large size developed Pine and Spruce bonsai are featured and a few specimens from both collections will be for sale at the exhibition.

VALAVANIS COLLECTION

While you are in Rochester, consider visiting my International Bonsai Arboretum to see fine quality bonsai from the Valavanis Bonsai Collection. This unique bonsai garden is framed by sculptured trees with the bonsai as focal points. Bonsai from the propagation bench to developed masterpieces. The art of bonsai display can be enjoined in six different areas. Come visit my garden and see how a professional bonsai artist studio and garden is set up to allow me to create new bonsai. My Open House will be on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Ask for a map.

The overwhelming positive response to the US National Bonsai Exhibitions is proof that the American bonsai community is alive, active and loves bonsai and wants to see more higher quality refined specimens. I look forward to welcoming you to the 8th US National Bonsai Exhibition in September 2023. And remember to get your tickets early!

.......can only pray for 325+ replies about this event?......

still el jeffe......

I got tickets a while ago and am excited to attend as a relative newbie. Also bringing a friend hoping to get him into the hobby. Unfortunate to hear everyone wasn’t able to get tickets, but glad it’s still on this year. Looks like bill is doing what he can in the context of the state/local requirements, which are a moving target.

In case attendees are wondering about mask requirements, Bill V. sent out this email a few days ago (tickets are gone BTW):

"As previously stated on our website and announced on face book, The U.S. National Bonsai Exhibition will comply with all State and County COVID regulations. News We were informed yesterday by The Total Sports Experience (our venue) affiliate to Unity Health System that things have changed. They informed us that because we are a large venue, everyone will be required to wear a mask, even those vaccinated to prevent the spread of COVID. They will be enforcing this new regulation. Please bring your mask and wear it mask at all time at the exhibition. They will have someone on site to enforce compliance. We ask that everyone please cooperate with The Total Sport Experience staff. "
