2021 National Bonsai Exhibition - Sept 11-12

Having some serious FOMO today.. ah oh well .. next one. Had to take care of a car 💰 issue anyway… glad everyone is able to enjoy!

Wish I could have been there this year but plan on being at the next one. Linda just got a new truck and are looking for that little 'ole Airstream. Then We'll be on the road for next year.
But in the mean time, This girl ( Ms Michigami*) was accepted but because of a lot of complications and I"m teaching (I at Merced College) we had to pass on getting her there this year. So I thought I'd pop in a few pix of her after this years growth and removal of a lot of dead needles. She's ready for show.
I do plan on entering her into the Pacific show coming up in Nov here in Oakland, CA so I'll hope she's worthy along with her cuz the ERC that nobody likes....

* The name was suggested (and instantly accepted) by my students: Dr. Vora and his daughter Ms.Nuper and son, Abay

This has been my first bonsai exhibition, and I've gotta say, it's been awesome!! I pretty much choked on my spit when I saw your pine and trident display, @Brian Van Fleet. No picture can do the real thing justice and those trees are stunning. I also had to elbow my family and be like, "holy crap, I *know* that tree!" when I saw your display, @Adair M. It really is a surreal experience and as other have said, highly educational. Topped off by the fact that literally the first person I saw as we were strolling up to the event center was Ryan Neil. I would be lying if I said I didn't fangirl a bit.

I am stoked to have made the pot for Dennis Vojtilla's Best Deciduous composition!

I also went to Bill's garden and picked up a tree. Sorry for the trouble TSA

Wow you really just went for it with that suitcase packing method, huh? I give you credit for being willing to just rip the bandaid off!

the show is wonderful. Having a great time, the trees are so inspirational and I‘m so proud of my fellow Cleveland club member Mel Goldstein for winning best shohin and best evergreen. Bill said it was the first time one person took two category awards!

I picked up a leetle yamadori ponderosa pine from Golden Arrow.
