Whats Going on in Smoke's Backyard?

First time I can put LOL in a post. Soooo funny, you're my kinda guy!

And we all know it's about the girth of the tree, not the height....

I've read that it's the movement of the trunk that counts, but girth and height never hurt. hahahaha

the secret is a good bend ... in the right direction .... of course planting angle is important as well for optimum results ... there are many books on the subject but its takes years to master and lots of practice ...

I feel like I've seen that picture far too many times in the past year. Good luck with the hot weather Al.

And now I can scratch "see a pink whale tail on a grown ass man" off the bucket list. Oh lord. This day is looking better all the time :o

I find that as I age I have had to switch to copper from aluminum to hold its shape....

Smoke I had you pegged at a boxer man, or at least briefs. I'm so confused.

Canada 13 (i think)

Just stumbled on this thread (thanks to the tea bag thread) and I have to say...I am confused on which most of the posts are referring to bonsai (or something else) now. :o

At any rate...thread subscribed to. LOL

Pruned back this bushy pyracantha to a manageable place. Now just have to wait for buds. Plenty of time left for me, winter does not hit until Feb, 12 and spring is on the 13th.

About time you updated this thread Smoke! We've been wondering what youve been up to. :p

Great lines on this trunk. I'm also amazed at how shallow that pot is; especially considering the apparent health of the tree!

May I ask a question?

The lowest branch on the left looks as though it was cut back. Sir, haven't I been taught to let that branch grow freely to let it thicken as it'd be the eldest branch?

Thank you.

B

Its not a branch. It is just a long shoot cut off that I missed before shooting the picture. The first branch is the large one above it on the left.
You can read about it here

Need to make trident cutting for the next few years projects. The last cutting I did now have 1/2 trunks and were repooted today from 6 inch clay pots to 8 inch clay pots. Some still need to be transplanted as I ran out of pots.

Finding clay bulb pans is hard to do. Most of the ones I have I bought on the coast. Will buy some more we I go camping in two weeks.

This is thirty tridents. These have soaked for 15 minutes in 1% IBA diluted 20 %.
Sorry what is IBA

Really like the shape of the lowest branch. Are you leaving the "birds fly through" space in the canopy, or filling it? I kinda like it, but you might move a small branch there too.
