What would you put in this pot?

I received this pot as a gift. It sticks to my tongue, so I don't trust it in freezing weather. I'd like to get a tropical tree to put in it, but I'm looking for ideas. At the moment, I'm leaning toward Ficus triangularis, because the leaves look like fish tails.

I know you don't normally go matchy matchy, but I think I red bougainvillea would look good. I'd probably go for a $100 option, but I only saw one and didn't love it.

I had also considered something with white flowers.

I decided to put a 'Kogen-no-aki' chrysanthemum in it. I dug up a root sucker from a plant I had outside, and it seems to be doing well. It's the orange cultivar pictured below.

It would look good in the short term, but apricot needs to stay outside, and the pot needs to come inside.
