I had to do a heartbreaking thing today. I have been nursing my largest winged elm tree in my back yard along for a few years now hoping it would heal from elm disease…. It was one of my favorites and the source of thousands upon thousands of elm seeds every spring. It was starting to dry out and the decay was setting in and it was developing a lean towards the house… it was time. I had to call in a favor with a buddy who is an arborist… he did the climbing and rigging, I did the lowering and grunt work on the ground. It took us four and a half hours but we finally got her down safely.

This is what the elm disease looks like on a large elm tree.
