Good heaven no! The roots went into the trash can.
ugh... those could have been some interesting trees. Right now I have around 6 root cuttings from my yatsubusa elm that I am about to start wiring down. Best thing about them is that the trunk take a while to lignify, and can be contorted as much as you can.

This tree by David Cortizas started as a root cutting.

Some of us are trying to reduce the number of trees we have.

Went for a repot of this Lime Glow juniper (horizontalis). I had to cut it out of the nursery pot to reveal a solid root cake. Just sawed off the bottom half, tried to work out what was left of the "soil" and put it in a pond basket with pumice. Fingers crossed I guess.

Today I potted up my first ever separated air layer. This is a Nothofagus antarctica (Arctic Beech) which I took off of a Nothofagus I bought from the late Dave DeWire. It was a long, low branch that wasn't needed in that location but I didn't want to waste it so here we are:

I'm hoping all goes well with getting it up and running in pumice. It's a very nice tree for bonsai - small leaves and naturally curvy trunk and limbs.
