Did a volunteer hour at work - trash pick up in a hedge row next to the outside driveway of ours.20250319_121338.jpg
Saw this little guy while looking at an interesting tree...

Went back to dig up the tree and saw him again with his paramour - much bigger fat mama garter. Did not get a pic.
Dug up the tree. Almost 100% sure it's a boxelder.
It was 3 feet in the hedge growing along the ground trying to get to the light.
It's gonna be my waste of time, good for nothing project... It's about 4 feet tall and pleasantly twisty.

It hardly can stand upright, so it is weighted with stones and staked with fiber sticks...

Did my first juniper repot today (last night). Would have liked to wait another year for more vigor but with no drainage out of the pot, decided to go for it. Nearly full bareroot to get the mud/dried clay out, and I cut 3-4 chunky roots. Left everything else. Put into an oversized pot by @Colorado to assist in recovery. Hoping this one will pull through! Still very beginner so feel free to provide criticism :)

I cut back my garden azalea, as the last flowers were past their prime so I decided to prune and start thinking about developing this tree. The long branch (right) will eventually go, but I want to keep it for now to provide growth. It's a little scary chopping, but I think its for the vision of the tree. I'm only into this a few months, so got a long way to go

Repotted my Juniper. Yes, the pot is not great. Yes, it’s not positioned correctly. But this was taken out of a large growing container. It is the first step in reducing the pot size. It was field grown and had hard clay throughout the root ball. So it positioned as possible with a slight reduction in the root ball size. Happy I got it out of the clay, the roots weren’t great.

Potted up some of my trees. Ended up purchasing a lot of pots from a very nice lady on marketplace. Her husband did bonsai for years and had recently passed. Even though they’re not ancient/epic pots, it feels right filling them back up with trees. Got 20 pots for $50. Block out the graft on the JWP… less than ideal I know.

Repotted this azalea. Roots were mostly good except one small pocket, where I think the wire was cutting off. Instead of wiring straight over the fine roots, I staked into them and tied down to those.IMG_5305.jpeg

As the white pine ages it will bark up more and become less noticeable. You can also do some scoring to break up the visual line of the graft point.

I love seeing a proper tie-down 💚

Photographed (forgot the lighter for scale!) my buckthorn that was collected last year. Really a hide-under-the-bench project right now. Starting to write up my records for it.

my chopstick drawer would disagree with you
I have well-made reusable chopsticks so carryout order chopsticks all go into my repotting stash. Sometimes I'll grab an extra set, sometimes my used chopsticks from the sushi restaurant end up in my leftovers container or my jacket pocket.

Worst case scenario they're like $7 for 40 pairs on Amazon
