Got around to doing my first thread graft on this hornbeam I collected a year ago. It’s very chunky but doesn’t have more than 1 or 2 live veins. I’m interested to see how the roots look in a year or so when I repot it from its current container.

It’s grown very well given the circumstances and will need tons of carving eventually. This is very much a practice tree, so it won’t bother me if this doesn’t take, but I sketched out how I’d like the final tree to look anyway

Sometimes they get overwatered during our rainy springs but having a greenhouse now means I can have a little more control over the water situation.
Is overwatering the reason for the coloration of the leaves? I've never seen anything but deep green leaves. I always wondered why more people don't use them for bonsai, the flowers smell wonderful.

Repotted my California juniper. There were a couple of issues when purchased with containers, and it had some decline. The roots were not the best and it showed with the loss of some foliage. Changed position. Used a mica pot from Wigert’s 12X12 to give roots some room for the position change. Potted with mostly pumice and some akadama. Now it stands over 4 ft.

I want a tree like this sooo bad....😁😁😁

I attended a class with John Eads today. We learned quite a lot and got to see the results of John's expirements.

Here us a picture that I took during the class. The hand in the frame was completely by accident but I love how it turned out in the picture.

The leaves are sunstressed from my grow lights. The second one I had in the propagator didn't get hit directly by the grow lights and is much greener.

Was this a top down repot experiment? Just curious, looks like what the picture might be of. This is a Russian cypress I started that process on today having seen success recently on other trees.

Still down sick. Forced myself to do two repots last evening.

One a Mother/daughter elm into an Erin tray. 20250302_190927.jpg20250302_191524.jpg
I don't feel like fussing with photography. The tree nicknamed Tim Burton Acer into its commissioned Burtonesque pot by Victor Harris of Erin Pottery. I need to set the branches I wired. But I didn't feel up to it after the repots.20250302_181601.jpg

Yes it was a top down repot experiment. A class member got 4 repots done with professional guidance lol

Today before work I created a "grow-out" bed in an Anderson flat for my Katsura seedlings that didn't put on a lot of growth. They'll stay in here for another year to reevaluate the growth put on. I am almost in the position to toss the unsatisfactory ones (it's hard :( to do)20250303_125321.jpg

I was reminded that I really do need to wear gloves when working with my communis junipers.

I looked like I had measles after working on this Juniper during the group slash this Saturday though I didn't get a photo of the rash. I'm the idiot that thought rolling up her sleeves was a good idea.

Sabinas seem to give me the worst rash. I have wimpy skin!

Finished a first styling of this Pygmy Cypress collected by the man, the myth, the legend... Mr. Bob Shimon.

First time working this species, pretty happy with how it turned out.

Hey All,
I just uploaded a step-by-step transformation video on this coastal cypress tree.
Please go check it out if you're interested in learning more about how to approach these.
If you dig the tree and the vibes, don't forget to like and subscribe.
