Is overwatering the reason for the coloration of the leaves? I've never seen anything but deep green leaves. I always wondered why more people don't use them for bonsai, the flowers smell wonderful.Sometimes they get overwatered during our rainy springs but having a greenhouse now means I can have a little more control over the water situation.
I want a tree like this sooo bad....Repotted my California juniper. There were a couple of issues when purchased with containers, and it had some decline. The roots were not the best and it showed with the loss of some foliage. Changed position. Used a mica pot from Wigert’s 12X12 to give roots some room for the position change. Potted with mostly pumice and some akadama. Now it stands over 4 ft.
The leaves are sunstressed from my grow lights. The second one I had in the propagator didn't get hit directly by the grow lights and is much greener. Is overwatering the reason for the coloration of the leaves? Was this a top down repot experiment? Just curious, looks like what the picture might be of. This is a Russian cypress I started that process on today having seen success recently on other trees.I attended a class with John Eads today. We learned quite a lot and got to see the results of John's expirements.
Here us a picture that I took during the class. The hand in the frame was completely by accident but I love how it turned out in the picture.

I looked like I had measles after working on this Juniper during the group slash this Saturday though I didn't get a photo of the rash. I'm the idiot that thought rolling up her sleeves was a good idea.I was reminded that I really do need to wear gloves when working with my communis junipers.

Finished a first styling of this Pygmy Cypress collected by the man, the myth, the legend... Mr. Bob Shimon.
First time working this species, pretty happy with how it turned out.
