Made a grow box, going to let one of my larger trees grow out for a while. Second effort, first that didn't look, uh rough. Wife's idea to put handles on it.

B
Nice! I'd recommend putting feet on it so it drains easier. The handles are a nice touch, though. I might have to add some to future boxes.

Photo tax: Repotted my Giant Sequoia, "Private Sherman".

Busy day! Potted Bald Cypress at Green Thumb Bonsai in Greenville, So. Carolina. Thanks to Wayne Ficklin, we got my Monster Black Pine into a Bonsai Pot

Checked on my cuttings in the aeroponic propagator. Ficus cuttings have swollen "nitrogen buds", nothing on serissa, juniper and camellia.
Added a glug of Clonex to the water.
@shohin_branches how long in your observation it takes for the roots to appear?
View attachment 579343
Well, got mixed results...
-Serissa started to grow roots, then, declined rapidly - bark turned mushy with no off smell. Dead.
-Juniper desiccated.
-Potted up 4 ficus cuttings, see the pic for the root status. 2 desiccated. Interestingly they were all from the same plant taken at the same time.
-Camellia's got root bumps and I think is still okay. Going stick it into sphagnum perlite mix under a plastic bottle dome tomorrow.

Did some early spring wiring and potting.

Forced myself to throw some wire on the Japanese maple Acer P. nicknamed Tim Burton Acer... I just still am so dang weak and not feeling quite well yet. But...I hope to get it into its commissioned pot this year. If it takes the last of my energy to do so. I want that pairing. Others plans...I'm quite about to let slide. We shall see...they are behind the maples in moving.

Cold nights for several days in a row... I requested the secondary heater at night. Brain fog...I didn't think to have them turn it off come morning. I didn't dare send a set of my foot steps to the greenhouse upon their return. So maples are beginning to show signs of moving. I've grow lights. It is what it is. They didn't freeze hard. That was my concern.

I would hate myself...If I didn't get wire on this tree. 20250222_151015.jpg

Trimmed and carved an elm. 2 years after collection, roots escaped into the ground.
As I was trying to saw off the pot from the ground I had to stop myself. It would be so much easier to carve it while it is still firmly attached to the ground. 🤯

Not sure if top branches will survive, but it's an elm after all...
Off to do the next one...

Today, I messed with my sacrificial invasive free bonsai-ish trees. Basically stuff I can hack to bits, while waiting for my actually stuff to grow.

I also repotted and made a tiny root trainer out of wire for this tiny invasive privet.

I know I should show love and affection and great care to all my trees, but I need to fiddle with something, so some trees are going to live in a high speed environment. If only so I keep my hands off my beloved ficus. 🥲🫠😁

Today (30 minutes ago), decided to repot in a slab one of my about to bloom leptospermum scoparium:

As leptospermum can be very temperamental, I decided to simply slip pot in the slab, not even touching the roots. So I picked my keto soil:

And finished the work , by hammering the old pot, and filling with akadama (the same soil it was into):

Repotted Azalea I bought last year... before/after. Changed the angle and placement, much smaller pot though very deep... hoping for the tree to develop surface roots. It was potted very high for some reasons hidden in the pot... that was fixed at current repot.

Wandered around one of my favorite collecting grounds yesterday looking for collectable material (no luck) and then did a few hours of deciduous repotting.

Technically not today but..

Spend 6 hours over 2 days on stage with some well known bonsai artists. Did not get a picture with Koji (He was done so fast!)

Mauro is a big guy, I never imagined you to be his size from your videos though.

Photo tax, photo of the water line in the trees from the recent flooding. Some places it is probably 20+ ft into the trees.

Repotted these 2 JWP that I bought last May---too late to pot then. These were both half-bare-root pottings.
Pinus parviflora 'Ogon' into a 12"x12"x5" grow box.
Pinus parviflora 'Azuma goyo ' into a colander.
Both subtrates are recycled pumice, coco coir, and pine fines. Approximately 6:1:1
