Does getting a tree in the mail count as "What did you do today?"
Received this great Texas Ebony nursery stock from Underhill Bonsai. It was so much larger than I ever expected. I was thinking it would be in a 4-6" pot. And already had a bit of wiring to give it movement. Can't wait to see how many times I get stabbed by a thorn...lol
Amazing and so healthy.

Saved this guy today from a death by construction. 3 inches tall with a gnarled trunk and split limb. He's got character for sure. No definite vision for the tree yet. Open to ideas.

I did some pruning on a few of my trees. These pictured are my Japanese Maple "Bonsai" airlayers. Sadly, I found out 1 of the three isn't making it. It had lots of die back, no roots anymore, and dedication
crawling up the trunk. It was the most promising of the three with its multiple branching already. Oh well..

Anyways....the one in the yogurt container I was originally planing on creating a mother daughter tree in the far future. While testing potential locations for the smaller trunk, it snapped off right at the collar. So I guess it was never meant to be anyways. Sometimes you just have to play with the cards dealt.

Finished another Colorado Blue Spruce but this time it’s a collab with Todd Schlafer. We didn’t quite agree with the left side of the design(I wanted a further reduction by either jinning or lifting the branches to form a third apex) but we did agree that it’s best to leave it in its current form until we repot next spring(assuming it does well over winter) and it recovers.

Before I had to leave for work, I started pulling leaves off of my Zelkova. I realized I should take a before picture after stripping the lower branch.

Here is the revealed structure. I plan to do some pruning when I get home as well as give the future development a good thinking through. I know I want to carve the bigger trunk into a more decrepit state (to add interest to the straight trunk) while allowing the smaller trunk to show it's youth.

Aiming for of the young replacing the old sort of composition. I'll draw myself a sketch tonight as well to have for future reference.

A really old Colorado Blue Spruce collected by Todd Schlafer back in 2022. This was a tree that Todd had no intention of parting with but he made the mistake of sharing a video of him moving the tree into the greenhouse, when he first collected it. A deal was struck that included his involvement in the initial styling.

I finally restored my garden - took a long time to do it as it was a emotional journey for me after the loss of my dad

I look forward to watching.

I collected some japanese maple seeds and planted them in a box. It was more of a thing to get the kids to stop yelling at each other. lol.

Probably counterintuitive in bonsai world but I straightened my hinoki cypress seedlings… need to have them super straight for my forest project. Years to go… but in terms of inspiration here is the little story…
I showed my wife (little bit unfortunately) attached picture of forest by Kimura and seems further bonsai funding might have been suspended if I don’t do soma thing along the lines for her ;)… so didn’t have much choice.
Btw… does anybody have dimensions of this thing? I was trying to search the internet but unsuccessful. Would appreciate if anybody knows.

Went food shopping and came home with a lemon cypress.
Charly Brown's Cristmass tree or something out of Whoville?

Untied and fluffed it.

I had one before and it survived a winter outside, but died in summer - it had that rooting plug in a net and roots never grew past it...
