Watered my trees while on crutches, because what I thought was a sprained ankle was actually a broken fibula.... Good thing I had it checked out instead of giving it "a couple more days" like my wife suggested 🤣

Not quite sure how I'm going to move everything for overwintering, but we'll see!

I had the same thing happen, i thought it was a sprain and just took it easy for a few weeks. Little did I know, I had snapped off the tip of my fibula. Now it floats around freely and hurts when cold or rain is coming. Hope it heals well for you.

Saturday was our club meeting on wiring and overwintering.

It was also my girlfriend's first bonsai club meeting. She's apprenticing to be the backup for recording all of the meetings so our club member that does it can enjoy the meetings from time to time or miss a meeting here and there.

We had a large group for this meeting and had to add two more rows of chairs.

I finalized the wiring on this semi-cascade RMJ, in good company with Todd Schlafer and a few other members of my local club. we had a fire going, worked on trees for the better part of 8 hours, and bbq'ed some phenomenal meat for lunch

this tree is 200-300 years old, but its foliage's tendency to flop reduced it to a 'kinda looks like a bush' comment from my girlfriend, even after initial styling (ouch). Todd's advice on how to properly uplift RMJ foliage, however, completely changed my approach to bending branches after wiring. post-work, it almost looks like a different tree in person

Bought a few new tools for my upcoming massive repotting season. (its only in 5 months :().
A repotting sichel (its so damn sharp, you feel like a samurai when holding it 😂, also it lays much better in hand than my old "normal" hand sichel, which was wayyyy to big).
And a new more rugged repotting hook (looks sort of like a butchers hook).
Also im trying a new cut paste, about which I've heard only good from, its much easier to work than the green and white lid putty, since its a silicone like texture. Shure you guys know it all.

That sucks unfortunately I’m well aware . Of what it’s like to be on crutches hope you recover quickly

Picked up my trees today, forgot to snap a photo of the limber pine while it was still daylight.

Pondy, I'll probably remove the leggy cascade and keep the portion in the first photo, gets real wide at the base under the soil Vince told me.

And the future limber pine literati. Sorry for the nighttime photo, I'll get better photos one day if I can catch daylight while I'm home...stupid time change.

That first tree is really cool. I like how it has multiple levels of "swooshes" going in the same direction.

I've spent the day watching the flames of many, many burning houses, which I can see from inside my own house. It's very depressing to see so many lives ruined. All those bright spots are burning houses.🙏

We'll be sleeping in shifts tonight so we don't get surprised by a change of wind direction or a new fire.

I lived in Hemet for a decade and remember how surreal it would be to go about my daily business while ash fell softly from the sky like Southern California snowflakes.
