I came home after my trip to Europe and found several dead trees, despite paying for someone to water the trees every day as supplements to my automatic watering. My water bill is gonna be high. The swamp box almost got overfilled.

Hopefully you didn't lose any of your favorites. I can't fully relax on vacation since starting this hobby, despite the safeguards I've put in place. I may even switch to vacationing in the winter to warm destinations.

I got nothing new for the photo tax, old pic from a bonsai show. :)

Found out what I heard last night. Raccoons got to my fish emulsion...

Hmmm.... I wonder if the raccoons will have diarrhea like my neighbor's dog.

So far I lost:
1. Mayhaw that I was working on for a broom. I have a thread on it somewhere. This one hurts a bit.
2. Dwarf crepe myrtle that @Mellow Mullet gave me a couple years back. It suffered much from the hard freeze last year and I nursed it back to full health just to have a malfunctioned water nozzle killed it. The guy I hired to water the trees apparently missed it as well. This one hurts a lot more. I was going to repot it in the spring and to show it to John as a surprise.
3. 4 collected big BCs. They were budding and growing well before I left. The guy I hire swore he watered them, yet they dried out and died. These hurt monetarily but I don't yet have any emotional tie to them.
4. A sweet gum that I collected also dried out a whole lot. It may survive but the newly developed apex is dead.
5. A silver maple forest. The forest dried to a crisp. Some of the trees may survive but that forest is pretty far gone. Not a money loss but a bit of my effort went into the forest.
6. Most of my BCs and Mayhaws suffered some setback but not enough to kill them.

My swamp box valve partially malfunctioned and put a whole more water into the swamp box than I intended. However, none of the BCs in there died. This will be my preferred method to protect my BCs for long trip from now on. Most particularly my prized BCs.

Sorry no photo for the photo tax. I will make up later.

Took a pic of this ginkgo I started from seed this year. I’ve grown a bunch of these over the years but sold all of em. Cant recall a trunk that looked like this, but I could easily be forgetting. I put some movement into it early on as I’m not looking for a traditional flame style.

What cultivar is your JWP?
Sorry, just saw your ? I have a couple different varieties.
Unfortunately I did not start a thread on this one, so before and after pics not available
save for this screenshot of my eBay order history.

Hi Uncle,
Can't believe you lost quite a few trees with your automatic watering system and a back up water boy. It is tough to find a water person that knows when the tree is showing stress of needing water. I lost a few trees as well two months ago when taking a short vacation.
Anyway hope you enjoyed your trip.
