Cool. Do you have a more detailed description of how you did this with pictures? I've been struggling with grafting and your experience would be informative.

A better instructional video in the making, but this should get you covered!

Copied from Tim Ferris' 5-Bullet Friday Newsletter today. This was originally written about setting goals for gymnasts, but I think it 's also very apt for bonsai. From USA Gymnastics Coach Christopher Sommers originally:

In fact, this impatience in dealing with frustration is the primary reason that most people fail to achieve their goals. Unreasonable expectations timewise, resulting in unnecessary frustration, due to a perceived feeling of failure. Achieving the extraordinary is not a linear process.

The secret is to show up, do the work, and go home.

A blue collar work ethic married to indomitable will. It is literally that simple. Nothing interferes. Nothing can sway you from your purpose. Once the decision is made, simply refuse to budge. Refuse to compromise.

And accept that quality long-term results require quality long-term focus. No emotion. No drama. No beating yourself up over small bumps in the road. Learn to enjoy and appreciate the process. This is especially important because you are going to spend far more time on the actual journey than with those all too brief moments of triumph at the end.

Certainly celebrate the moments of triumph when they occur. More importantly, learn from defeats when they happen. In fact, if you are not encountering defeat on a fairly regular basis, you are not trying hard enough. And absolutely refuse to accept less than your best.

Throw out a timeline. It will take what it takes.

If the commitment is to a long-term goal and not to a series of smaller intermediate goals, then only one decision needs to be made and adhered to. Clear, simple, straightforward. Much easier to maintain than having to make small decision after small decision to stay the course when dealing with each step along the way. This provides far too many opportunities to inadvertently drift from your chosen goal. The single decision is one of the most powerful tools in the toolbox.

I sold this tree to a club member a month ago. 😡

At least I got the Brian Soldano pot back…
I understand the frustration, but ultimately. 🤷🏼‍♂️ glad you got the pot back.

I have some friends that are bonsai curious. We collected trees this fall and I told them I would babysit the trees and help them with re pots, stylings, etc. but they have to keep the trees at my house. I wouldn’t be surprised if when they finally take them home, they are dead within 6 months. Bonsai is a commitment most folks are not ready for.

Define arm and a leg https://www.greenhousemegastore.com/products/dura-bench-plastic-benchtop-2x4?variant=43732958707911
These are a bit flimsier than I expected, like they sag unless you have a bottom support running across, but its a thick plastic that will clearly last forever so I'm happy with them.

We need a thread on greenhouses apparently

@Deep Sea Diver @NaoTK @Hartinez @Paradox @ZombieNick @Maiden69 and all others that post...
Remember, this a pictures-required thread! SHow us what you have been up to! Lets keep the spirit of this threadalive!

painfull post. One of my fears when good trees leave the garden.

Flash forward.. Not what I did, but what I will do.. The regional bonsai show opens today. So in half an hour a mate picks me up for a day of looking under the skirts of some bonsai on stands!
