Spent the last 4 days on a repotting marathon with Ryan and Todd. Finished all of the yamadori that were collected in 2022 and some iconic trees in the collection(the Tornado, Bolt and El Capitan). Will be posting proper photos soon but here’s some BTS!

Little embarrassed to show this. My first attempt at a forest composition. I had a bunch of ignored Bald Cypress trees of different ages. The pot does not have drainage holes so it was a bit challenging to anchor trees. I’ll adjust the angles once they get some root growth. Some trees sat at an angle while growing. I tried to straighten the trunks.

The trees should be leafing out in a month or so. I typically grow these trees standing in water year round. They seem to tolerate cutting most of the roots off and bounce right back.

Let me know what you would do differently. I did manage to find one tree with a “knee”. I put the knee forward so the world can see how my knee grows.

It may just have been a root that was forced to bend due to small container but I’m happy to have a bonsai showing it.

I turned numerous seedlings into cuttings.

The three here are western Larch, Japanese zelkova, and Sitka Spruce.

One of the spruce has a side bud already extending away from the main leader interestingly enough. I didn't notice it until after I performed the cutting.

I don't know how many larches where in here. I wanted to wait another week or so for these larches, but some animal decided to go postal in my seed tray and basically dig up all but 5 larch. Thankfully the Zelkova were rooted enough to withside the devious behavior. Downside is that my dividing lines are now obfuscated. I know what seeds are generally planted where, but the animal probably scattered the seeds out of those regions.

Built another Dawn redwood forest for my friend Dylan with 21 of his field grown trees.View attachment 535417
I was looking at those trees and was tempted to buy them.

Dylan is such an amazing grower.

I was intimidated to take on such a large project but now that it’s completed it doesn’t look all that big.

Big thumbs up for doing the job.

Dylan is my Bonsai superhero.
