Repot for the chunky privet, out of the plastic training pot with super-dense rootball. Was a tricky one as there was a lot of field soil and trunk under the surface, I carved quite a bit of trunk away but might need more work in future with power tools.

Too cold and wet to work on my trees, so I hit the books!

Working on a glossary of tree species and other terms found in show books. When it’s done, I’ll post it here as a resource.
And I am going to ask you whether I can include it in a glossary on my website, when I do get around updating it! :)

Actually yesterday:
Potted these 2 mirror image 20 year old Morris dwarf Boxwoods dug up in my friend's garden in late October. They were already exposed root and leaning sideways in his garden, so I wanted to keep that feature. I don't have any concept of how to style these yet. Obviously, I need to remove some branches and get more light to the interiors. Potted into pumice: lava: coco coir:akadama: pine fines approximately 10:2:2:2:1
This is Boxwood #1
I have a hornbeam very similar with exposed roots. I am looking at doing it Cascade style.

Got my conifers out today. Getting some sun this weekend!

Also, repotted this Virginia creeper into some proper bonsai soil and a better cascade pot.
Wicked virginia Creeper!

Today, having cleared out some space in the shed, I actually had enough room to build grow boxes for spring in the rain. Made 8 of em. 7 small-medium boxes and 1 large box hopefully for the "portal juniper" im trying to get permission to collect. Will see... if not, Im sure it will be good for something.

Today I repotted my starter JM for the first time. Got it out of the garden soil and into a mix of Akadama, Turface, coarse river sand, & fine pine bark. I worked the roots pretty hard, and the root cutters & hand saw got a work out.

Now I need to work on the branching, but I'll let it recover first. :)

More pottings! The Blue Atlas Cedar was so pot-bound that the root ball was hard as rock - I teased out maybe an inch of roots at the bottom and a little at the top, and it'll be sitting in this pot for another couple of years before I go back in to try and tease out the rest. I had it sitting in a big pot of sphagnum moss over the summer/fall/winter and it was starting to put out some new root growth into it, so I'm hopeful it will survive today's efforts.

The Trident Maple didn't need anywhere near that much work, so fingers are crossed for its own future to be very routine.
