What’s your latest Bonsai related purchase?

Attended a workshop on Saturday, happy birthday to me. Blue Pfizer Juniper, before and after. And could not resist, also picking up 2 green maple starters, and a Dawn Redwood starter, as well.

Indoor safe scale spray:
32 oz spray bottle from home depot or lowes
One cup rubbing alcohol
1/8 cup dishwashing liquid
Fill the to half with water
Spray every two weeks for 2 months

Or just take a cue tip and rub rubbing alcohol on the scale

Or just remove by hand
I have used similar but with 50% alcohol and dish detergent. It does work, but there are still pests. I will try your way. 👍

got a notification that my 3 recently purchased shore pines are arriving tuesday

so ran out and bought some pond baskets today, the plan is to put some decent bends in the trees before winter, anchor whatever pots they're in into the pond baskets and stabilize with inorganic growing media around the sides so they don't blow over all winter, then the pines get planted into the baskets in spring (or a couple of them, it'll be nice to have 3 similarly aged plants to experiment on)

At my club's silent auction on Saturday, I snagged this shallow blue rectangle. It's just a production pot; no stamp nor tie down holes but I think it's worth the $50 I paid.
There's a hornbeam clump in my grow bed that will land here next Spring.

Got 5 20L bags of Hemlock garden flower bed mulch . Looks like from NA west coast , so western hemlock . Plan on aging it a bit more . Here in the east cedar mulch is everywhere. But hemlock is rare . I grow eastern hemlock . Some have said that hemlock bark ( John Adam’s if memory serves ) makes a especially good organic component for bonsai . Due to its long lasting ability . Plus hemlock in particular thrive in it .

Yeah, I've been busy. Had the day off from work, drove out to one of my 'local' ish nurseries. Came away with some potential trees/shrubs for next spring. A maple. The species escapes me just now. A pyracanthus, a fig tree purchased for me because, birthday month, and a hydrangea FREEBIE!
As I was getting ready to check out, I'm looking at a 'tree' that wasn't there when I came in. Shop owner tells me it was just dropped off, as the previous owner had no room to bring it inside. Oh yeah, tender hydrangea. Shop owner says I can have it if I want. I'm like, uh, Yeah! And of course, I'm busy looking at the base of it. In the pot it is probably about 3 feet tall. I like the opportunity to experiment with whatever I get my hands on. I don't know if I will actually put it in a 'bonsai' state, but it will get a hard pruning if still alive come spring.
Into my holding pen the outdoor plants will go.

Hello, I’ve just joined the forum. One of the posts I’ve read says ‘Avoid buying EWP… I had already purchased one a couple of days ago. The label calls it a Mini White Pine - Pinus strobus Sea Urchin. I love the soft needles. I’ll be styling it sometime in the next week or so. This forum is terrific I’ve learned so much already.💕

The up or down side to a part time gig? Spending change.

Hit up a couple of nurseries. One even had starter trees. And of course, if you bought a certain number, 5, you got a bit of a discount.
2 black cherry, 1 gingko, 1 white oak, 1 burr oak, a childhood favorite, a maple called Alum, some lava sand and pebbles to do some diy soil blend.

Ordered wire off Amazon.
