The problem comes when people think that THEIR religion is the only one... and you can't push those beliefs onto others. This is what the Crusades intended, what the Taliban intends, the conquests, etc...

I don't know if we can call Taoism, Buddhism, Shintoism religions, as I think they are more beliefs, or could be religions... but their philosophy gives the same things you mentioned above. Yet they don't believe in Jesus Christ, and they don't go around condemning people around that don't believe in what they do. This is what Christians throughout history have gotten wrong... yes, it was said to "spread the word", but not in the way that fanatics have done so.

Going to the beginnings, the apostles were persecuted, stoned, jailed, and killed... and they continue doing what was right. It is the other way around now.
 
This entire thread is depressing. Guy asks for assistance in retrieving his stolen bonsai and gets increasingly unhinged comparative religion 101...Yeah, theft is wrong in Hindu, Islam, Christianity, Judaism...So is treating your fellow man like a punching bag to score points on...

It just really upsets me that there are people out there that steal trees. Each tree is UNIQUE and the devastation felt when someone steals such well developed trees is unimaginable.

I don’t care what the reason behind the theft is, it’s wrong and I truly hope some trees can be recovered.

I think I never said religion is the problem. I indicated that a statement that anybody does not waste his/her time Wishing there is a deity in the sky looking our for all is the root of profane living, is a bloody insulting thing to say.

Sorry, but I would say the Christian Religion is a poor moral guide in many of todays problems. But of course. Then people will say, you should only look at the christians that live within the moral code (And even there things are happening that I do not wish upon others, all under the name of god).

Always the same stupid arguments.

Very sorry to hear about the stolen trees I hope justice is swift and trees are retrieved , or at very least Jason at Eastern Leaf finds peace during this difficult time.

No, I meant that morale codes that exist nowadays developed from religion and it is influenced by culture... I didn't said it developed from the Christian religion, as religion is older than Christianity. There are records of religious beliefs since the beginning or writing, so around 3000BC.

I don't like it when people equate morals with God/s. Philosophically, that belief means that evil is human nature, and the only reason people choose not to do evil is because they're afraid of Hell or ceasing to exist when they die. They're afraid of torture and death and that's the only reason they don't steal, rape, murder, etc. It's not that they don't want to do those things, they do because it's human nature, they just don't do them because of the repercussions. That's what comments equating evil to godlessness means to me.

If there was no eternal life or threat of eternal suffering upon death, but there was still a God, would you still follow your religions outlined morals and rules? i.e. if there was no reward for devoting your life to a belief, would you still uphold and follow a set of laws and morals that that belief required?

Of course you would (at least I hope), because it's not human nature to do evil. Evil is learned, just as empathy is. Saying that someone stole something because they turned their back on God removes the important examination of how someone ended up at that place in their life where they felt it was OK to steal someone's art and work. If you just say "Godlessness" you cut out the buildup and you're just left with the act. How are you going to solve and prevent something like that again without trying to figure out what ultimately lead up to that person's behavior? If you don't actually figure out the underlining problems with society that ultimately produced that criminal, then society itself will never improve.

A man stole important items from another person and business. What can we, as members of society, learn from this act to help stop it from happening to another victim? Because thoughts and prayers won't cut it.

Certainly there is a difference between pushing ones beliefs on another and simple evangelism.
 
Y’all sure do have a jacked up idea about God. Religion is man’s way of bringing in moral convictions to make one feel better about being a “good person”. True Christians realize how broken they are bc of their sin and at the same time are so thankful for what Jesus did for us. Lived a perfect life that we couldn’t live and died a death we ALL deserve. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not we are all jacked up individuals and need saving. And only the blood can do that
