The Tree Thread

I hate how I love the trees that are popping by!

What happened?

5 years from overgrown topiary 7ft 'bonsai'
Some people don't like Ume in leaf. Mature trees' leaves curl in summer. It's a sign they're going to bloom in the following Winter. His has that look, but its compounded by looking like it wants more water. Here is my Ume. Leaves curling, but not fried:

No, doesn't need water. Isn't fried. In fact it has two of Boon's water sprayers dedicated for it. It's just what it is. The leaves curl up. Look absolutely awful. Which is why I say it's a "back bench" tree all summer.

All while I was working on my trees, Yenling83 was working on his cookie cutter tree:

Turned out pretty well!

Doesn't matter whose sprayers are dedicated to it, this area looks dried out. Maybe it's the photo.

Thanks for your concern, but the sprayers hit it from both sides. The soil stays damp.

I did wire the entire tree and repositioned some branches, which may have turned some upside down, or something.

I'll call Paul and ask if he can look at it.

Thanks.

Paul says it's just fine. If anything, too wet.

Oops, forgot to post a tree last time. So here's two:

I spent some time with the pressure sprayer cleaning the deadwood, and then while the wood was still wet, painted with full strength lime sulfur. When you apply lime sulfur with the wood wet, it soaks in more, and doesn't have that "painted" look.

I don't doubt what you are saying about this tree. Hopefully I will remember next year to ask you how well this guy is blooming. View attachment 108512
No worries, Vance. You won't have to remember to ask. I'm sure I'll be putting up pictures!

Here's what it looked like this same time last year:

Even worse than this year!

And here it is last January in bloom:

Started some clean up ,this one usually takes me about 2 days or so lol, needs some wire too. It will be repotted next spring ,it's been about 3 or 4 years .but I'd really like to do something a little different when I repot try to give it a bit more demension and a bit more of an interesting perspective, I still enjoy her though :p

I usually trim in place this ones about 70 pounds wet. And here's some more friends watching me trim. I moved the nest around the garden as they started hatching !
