I get a lot of little mantises, too! Last year I took a tree to Knoxville to display at their show. In the car, I noticed I had a 1 inch long mantis on the tree. He stayed on the tree all weekend, and I brought him back home! What's up with the wrinkly bed sheet!?

Preying mantis nest on a trident
....supposed to be good luck they can hatch hundreds of baby mantis'!
You forgot to post a tree, Vance! You need to post your trees more often. This one is really nice. Procumbens Juniper???
That tree is pretty tight for an Atlas Cedar. I knew the trunk did not look right but it has been so long since I have had may hands on a true Cedar I did not at first recognize the trunk.. The following Mugo is another in the string of the same Mugo I posted earlier. You forgot to post a tree, Vance!
No, that one is a Green Atlas Cedar. I let it grow out a bit then cut it back. (Rather than pinching.)
Here's a project underway: JBP about 3 years out of the field. It's had two "half bare root" repots, so it's now rid of all the old field soil and is growing in Clay King bonsai soil.
Two of three grafts have taken, I'm chasing foliage back towards the trunk, carving back on chopped branches, etc.
It's still very much in the "ugly duckling" stage!
