The Accent (Companion) Plant Thread

I've just read the post about P. afra (http://www.bonsainut.com/threads/p-afra-fun.25064/), it made me think of Crassulas I have. Some of them:

Crassula ovata (you can see a small leaf that fell down and has begun to root itself on the right of the pot):

Crassula ovata 'Hobbit':

Crassula ovata 'Compacta':

Crassula capitella 'Campfire':

... and they're so easy to take cuttings from!

Great thread! I can tell I haven't been around much lately because I never saw this one.

I was just about to start a thread for native accents when I decided to check to make sure one hadn't already been started. This will do! I already love the Tree thread and the Yamadori thread. :)

These are "Lanceleaf Stonecrop" native to my neck of the woods. (Sedum lanceolatum)

Very nice. The roof of my wood store is covered with a very similar Sedum (though with white flowers).

This is just a dried-out wild grass, waiting for spring.

Very nice Tom!

More native accents from my collecting areas: This one is Bitterroot (Lewisia rediviva). There is also some of the same Stonecrop as my last post in there, but it didn't bloom this year thanks to mice eating all of my stonecrop accents.. lol. They all grew back but didn't bloom. One interesting thing about the bitterroot is that the leaves grow out and then begin to wilt and fade as the plant flowers. Eventually it completely dies off and new leaves emerge as it gets cool again in the fall.

Here's the same accent last fall after the Stonecrop had grown back in. You can also see the new bitterroot leaves peeking out of the top.

Japanese pot. Not sure of the potter.

I apologize in advance... I'm going to bombard this thread with photo's of this bitterroot for a bit. I just can't ever decide which angle/s I like best.

If you keep on messing with it, it will end up like this...

:)

Nice plant and nice pot btw.

Accent as displayed at the 5th US National last September. I used a 1" thick clear acrylic slab in place of a more traditional jita. The intent was for it to represent water. I used a variety of plants including knotweed, dwarf azaleas and various mosses.

EDIT: Dan nice accents! I'd love to have some of those native plants.

Dan - I love your Lewisia. I had a garden hybrid Lewisia, and the squirrels got it, roots and all.
@MACH5 @zachkent29 @Dan W. - love all your kusamono.

this is an old picture, plant is no longer with me. The pot is at most 3 inches in diameter. Masdevallia orchid.
