Stoned...

So I pulled out some “Trail Mix - Dark Chocolate” that I had gotten from @mwar15 , to “take it for a spin”...

It is BY FAR my most favorite clay for structures (currently), THANK YOU! It’s range seems SO versatile..

And although I ALSO tried out some new techniques on this piece that I do not like, and will never perform again, I am proud of it. However, I don’t PERSONALLY like it.. so It will probably sell cheap. 🤣

Here we are..

Looks good, I love the color but it didn’t fire well to cone 6, it is more a cone 5 clay.

I would prefer a term which implies a miniature landscape. So much more than just trees are involved here. Treescape to me sounds like a grouping of trees in the garden. I spent many many years planting treescapes for people. Someone else can do the research here. I am too lazy. It might be from root words that are in Latin, as is most of our language, or Greek which is still a significant root language for western languages. Either of these would be quite suitable for all western styles, not just American. If the intent is to reflect an American heritage, it should be based in root words from our pioneers that set our world apart from the rest or, as I would prefer, from Native American roots. So many states, cities, rivers and so forth have names adopted from the original people. Shenandoah for example, means Daughter of the Stars.

It looks like Standard 266 or 710 which are also accused of not behaving properly at cone 6. Some potters report bloating at cone 6. I always fire to cone 6 and have never had a problem with either of them.
I fire very slowly.

Here here!

I normally “pull the reigns“, HARD, and end up keeping ny FIRST three hours WITHIN quartz inversion.. then I slam gears!... up to “Low” 🤣.

(I realize FIRST my analogy was horses, then switched to horsePOWER... whoops!)

Anyways.. even after that.. I’ll slowly crawl for about 10-12 hours at least.... I often “fell” cone 6 cones and never get above 1850..

It IS fun to push past 2000.. in gas reduction, though.

🤣

Here are some helpful words and phrases I wrangled up from the one Native Language I an familiar with.. (“Garden” was hard to f

anyone interested in the link to thd pronunciation clips?

Is that what you meant to say? Cone 6 is about 2,250 F.

Hmm.. maybe my pyro is off.. because I fire as “cone by proof alone”.... or pyro placement??

I normally place at least two cones .. one on the front on the bottom shelf.. and one on my top shelf.

They’re staggered.. but they “go”..

Hmm.. what do you think?

It’s been more recently, too.

I'm not sure what you are saying. If you are firing 1800 to 1850 it is cone 06. This is bisque or low fire. If you are firing to cone 6 you are about 2250 F. This is stoneware.

Yes.. they are cone 6 cones, well cone 6/7 packs..

My first few fires, they’d (the cone 6 half) START moving at about 2050, down by 2200(ish)... which seemed right..

But the two fires BEFORE my last... my pyro never registered me “breaking” 1900.. but the cones, the same cones.. fell in the same ma

Last fire was almost the same.. cones started moving at 1980, down by 2150.

So maybe those two “middle” fires, I was having pyrometer issues?

I chalked it up to efficient kiln stacking, and longer firings.. like heat over time.. but “Pyro malfunction/missread on two fires makes MUCH more sense.

That is what it sounds like. Cones are also affected by speed of firing, but not to that degree.
Thank you!

Sometimes I need to make sure my head’s on correctly..

Are you familiar with the 1980’s film “Labyrinth”?

There’s a group of puppets, calling themselves “The Wild Gang” who throw their heads for entertainment. Buuut it’s against the rules to touch ANYONE else’s head.

I remember, seeing the movie after eating a few little pieces of paper (Hoffmans bike ride Printed on then, actually)... and the leader pf the Wild Gang calls out, “Hey! That’s against the rules! ..Everyone knows you can only throw your own head!”

To which I responded... *Speechlessly exhaling in agreement*

🤓🤣🤣🤣

Too much to say after not following this thread consistently enough!

I like how you can tell you are drawing off of memory of these places, you do it well, the detail is on point.

Poor chickens, hope they are well, I renamed mine Anne and Frankie and hid them in the attic while this house inspection went through, lol! When I let them back out, my dog was so happy to have his friends back, he chased them around the yard to play, just scaring the hell out of them!

I think we should have more collaborations, I'm willing to ship and/or receive.

Love that you got beyond "thermomalfunctions" and watched them cones!

100F/hr with mad oxygen and that dark dark is good to cone 8!

Singing this song...."chicken shack, chicken shack", made me think about you making a "Pollos Hermanos", though I'd rather see you model the Meth Trailer!

I just watched an episode of Steve-O's Wild Ride with Frankie Muniz, said Bryan Cranston still contacts him every 2 weeks to see how he's doing, that's a good dude!

Sorce

Dude! I watched the Steve-O documentary like 2 days ago.. FOR ..REAL!

I like Muniz, too.. I had NO idea.. I like his part he played in SVU.

I was actually thiiinking thaaaat.. I’ve got some cone 10 Porcelain that you gave me.. that I’m scared to fire... but want to use...

I could send some pieces to you “green”.. Lord knows it’ll be a couple years until I’m firing to Cone 10.. you could throw some badass glazes/slips/stains.. whatever on em.. and take them to “climax” 🤪🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

That’s the Si0-2 brand Black With impalpable .. (OH MY GOD!! I just “got” the brand name!! 🤣🤣🤣 Brilliant!)

I like it alot for detail work. It’s been consistent, thus far.

I just finished this, actually.. I watched
/listened to the first half-hour earlier.. and finally sat down again..

And I gotta say.. Frankie Muniz KEPT changing my opinion on himself as a person.. over and over, throughout.. (but that’s because My schooling is in psychology and I SPECIFICALLY enjoy psycholinguistics, behavioral expression.. ect. Ect.. “Profiling-type study”).. and ENDED... neutral..

Go Frankie Muniz!

HAHAHA!!

Some day we'll each have the wherewithal to visit each other's homes, and we'll be better for it in every respect.

You have no idea how accurately inaccurate this really is.
By that I mean you couldn't get too much closer without having actually experienced it.
Love it!

You know my friend, it needs some rockifying. It looks a lot like it was found in a cow pasture. 🤣 🤣 🤣

If its not hollowed out it will take months to dry and will likely crack anyway.
