To my eye it needs a couple long deep fissures to be real convincing. On the other hand, once stained, fired and planting, it will be fabulous as is.Thank you, friend!
It’s still moist enough that I can ADD a little moisture, and “go back at it” with some of my best, jagged “rockifiers”View attachment 412435
I was thinking the SAME thing about the long, deep fissures... looks too “Alien” without them..To my eye it needs a couple long deep fissures to be real convincing. On the other hand, once stained, fired and planting, it will be fabulous as is.
BTW, one of us has rockifye spelled wrong. But according to spell check we both do.
Oh, it is.That almost sounds exciting
I know much about it and am still forever learning. I have a huge pit that I throw a lot of my not ready for prime time pieces in and use for target practice.@sorce , if you think that’s a groovy idea, I will start messin’ with that porcelain.
@penumbra , the little structure had build-induced structural problems.. buuut I will be throwing similar shacks and sheds soon, and I shall consider which ever you like (if any) yours.
The ravine planting had a foot/leg “come off”.. aaaand then I broke off a corner of the whole shebang when trying to mend the situation...
But I learned much about the bizarre construction methods behind throwing those-style pieces.. so my experimentation has just begun...
Perhaps wood “stands” for the more extreme-angled plantings would be good, @ShadyStump ?.. something to mull over..
Either way.. I’m confident my next planting/forest tray/pot will lack the issues present in the pile of clay formerly known as “Ravine”.

Positive energies in your direction, friend.. If i get a good meditation session today, I’ll try to work your situation into one of my internal cadences (Mantras, whatever you choose to call them)I know much about it and am still forever learning. I have a huge pit that I throw a lot of my not ready for prime time pieces in and use for target practice.
Tell you what, if I am ever attacked by a pot it better look out.
BTW, any pieces I get from you need to be bisque fired to know more than ^04 and preferably ^06 (about 1800F or so), otherwise they will not take the stains that well.
I am afraid I still can't do much with my shoulder out of wack. Hopefully a few more weeks of healing will do it. Hope I don't have to retire from clay works.
..I feel worth mentioning, that the image this conjures in my head, features you, shooting chopsticks (as “bolts”) out of a steam-age crossbow.use for target practice.
Good luck with pain management, friend.I was going to try a little project in clay today but I am manning the phone to talk to mom's doctor about pain medication for her issues. I took advantage of not working in the basement and sprayed every plant downstairs (hundreds) with a blend of systemics. I don't want to be down there until tomorrow now. If you can smell it, you don't want to be near it.
