this is cool material with a lot of potential.
id start with a good clean up/ out. then remove those super long skinny branches starting on the lower left with the green way out. then probably jin the what looks like the second straight trunk which was all ready pointed out, id then have a good look and pull some branches down and get rid of a couple duplicate parallel branches in the main middle trunk as well

then id bring it to a workshop to someone who would then blow your mind with it.

Totally agree...good place to start. The two right trunks are very good, and probably the whole tree when it's all said and done.

I agree with Brian. It's hard to tell if there is enough branching on the main right trunk to do this easily, but I would consider making the tree out of the two right trunks and jinning the two trunks on the left and extend a shari from them down the trunk a bit. I'd try to pull the branches on the lowest right trunk down to follow the line of the trunk down low, and try to get a little up and down wiggle in them as well. The main right trunk seems to have great shape already, so maybe not much to do there except wire it out and place the branches. Cool material for sure.

This is really good. You may at some point want to reduce the bottom trunk/branch.

I hope that you set cuttings with the material you removed from the left side. There is nothing like the pitter-patter of little Shimpakus floating around your garden.

What, no shari??;) Great virt...pretty much what I was thinking, as well.

Thanks this was one of the things I thought might work but I felt it would create too much of a cookie cutter bonsai. The reason i've waited so long is cause I was looking for something else something more interesting or unique I could bring out. What, I don't know... maybe this is indeed the best option. There isn't enough foliage to create this right away. But there are live branches in those positions so I could easily increase the mass by removing the left two trunks and letting more light get to them this spring.

Jim's option certainly gave a more wild appearance, but I'd be afraid the design isn't sustainable over a long period of time, since it uses the straight taperless sections.

I think my virt uses the sections with better movement, and you can add character over time by introducing Shari and Jin, as well as twisting some movement into the younger branches.

If you're not in a hurry, this would be a very good Kathy Shaner workshop tree for about 3 years. Maybe you've seen this one...similar caliber material.

Great job on that one, it turned out very nice and will obviously only get better.

By bending the most awkward trunk down and keeping two of the others this image could be created in a fairly short time I think as well.

I think that there is something much more unique in there, there definitely should be some jin and shari. It can be a very dramatic little tree.

I like this one... Almost a semi cascade... Has a nice balance!

Bryan's virt looked like a great option as well potentially, but if you go that route, I would change the planting angle to get the bottom of the trunk a little more vertical and really get a more classic looking informal upright look to it.
