Shimpakupalooza

Gee Smoke, thanks a whole F*#$%@!! lot ! :D
It really helps me get inspired when I see a post like this one, making me want to toss all my plants aside and hope a garbage can refusal develops like one of these !

They are all real nice, I love the first one and the third is my second favorite.

The Bonsai gods must be favoring you .....

The mites are new this year. I cannot recall having mite problems. At least not in the last 10 years that I can remember. I caught it yesterday before anything really bad happened. I also sprayed about 4 other junipers just in case.

Rob

Good, glad to hear that Rob!

Today I had the pleasure of attending two club meetings. The Fresno Bonsai Society meets from 9 AM to noon and the Akatsuki Bonsai Society meets from 1PM to 3ish.

During this time I was able to take two of the junipers to class. My goal was to prune out and wire one at each meeting. I was able to do that. while these are not the best work I have ever done, they seem a helluva lot better than the mite infested overgrown crap they were. maybe with a decent amount of fertilizer and some new TLC, they can blossom into something better in a couple years.

This is the first one. This was juniper no. five.
Before and after.

They certainly look better, nice work Al. If they fill out you should have a nice silhouette.

It's great to see you posting your work. It's great to see your design vision in the early stages.

Love all of these. Are you going to consider regular spraying just in case? I think I might start doing that next season. I use the all seasons horticultural oil. I am thinking maybe spraying the junipers once a month regardless if there are any pests present. Normally, I don't spray pesticides without reason. However, last week, we had a couple of warm days and wouldn't you know it, mites and scale again. I caught it in time though.

I agree, this makes it easy to see how these things happen, things like this don't grow on trees you know....!

Those are amazing transformations. I see consistency in your approach, and a definite style that follows each tree. Thanks for showing us how you approach these trees. How long before they get to where you want them?

Rob I think thats a great idea. Preemptive spraying might be just what I need to do.

Just a couple months. Then they go to the swapmeet.

Maybe I'll meet you there Smoke...a newbie here with only a few small preemie trees from Gray at Nee-Hai.

Nice to see a Fresnan here. I am new to the forum and bonsai and will hopefully see you at the December Fresno Bonsai Society meeting.

Spent a lot of time repotting today. Finished restyling the last two junipers. Decided to repot them under a cloudy sky today threatening rain. Still managed to get to a nice 70 degrees anyway under cloudy skys.

First I'll post a group shot and then a before and after of each.

Bunzan pot, I thought the pot had enough strength to carry a juniper eventhough its glazed.

Agreed...I like this too. Bunzan pots intrigue me, some day I'll find one I can't pass up. Some look like candy dishes, some look like he's trying really hard to replicate a Tofukuji piece, and some, like yours, just plain work.

thanks for posting up some work from the bunker!
