@Japonicus , plus the added advantage of the exercise you get running from loose dogs! Thank you for the work you do!
Thanks, I never got dog bit. Had 4 vehicle accidents not at fault. One I was out of my vehicle when it got hit I retired last April.
Getting conditioned to the heat gives one creature an advantage over another but advantages only go so far.
Amazon and time restraints are the driving exercise factors. I was a rural carrier so the snow and driving up and down "crows nests" was quite the energy burners then add snow and or cold resistance. Still, no A/C in Summer makes ya wilt.

Gonna be a much more muggy day today with approaching cold front.
With the extended heat wave and lack of rain the temps have been doable with lower humidity levels as the ground dries out. This allows air temps to climb. Forecasting 100°F today with rain on the way.
Highs in mid 80s for a week coming :)

We don't have to worry about the humidity here. We've had 5.66 inches since November 1. Last August was only a trace. We're forecasted a chance of rain starting Saturday, increasing into Monday, but I'm not holding my breath. I hear that story pretty often. Starting to think NOAA and the National Weather Service are Steinbeck wannabes. Our forecasts are dramatizations of true events, or events that are possible.

Humidity will raise the heat index or "feels like" temperature to 110-111 F here in the DMV today. Tomorrow will see a cold front and (God willing) some rain. Back in the high 80's hopefully for a while at least for the next week or so.

Hoping with you that you get some kind of relief soon.
Expecting 102° here today. Humidity is fairly high today. 40% this late in the morning means probably 20% or higher in the heat of the day.
I think our forecasts are so inaccurate because of our vicinity to the mountains. The rain shadow is definitely a real thing!

Anybody have any suggestions for great bonsai deals? I found a 10pc pond basket for $21.05. 7"wx7"dx4"h

We are getting three warmer days. They call it a mini-heatwave. 🤪

Enjoy!

The last half of last week temperatures were at or near 100F/40C, and we didn't do much at all. This week is much milder, temps maxing out in the 90sF/30sC. A little weird, though, with higher humidity coming with it.
I've been doing fence repairs on my dad's property, and today was actually a really nice day for it. Not too hot, just humid enough to make you sweat just enough to stay comfortable. Irrigation water today, and that breeze blowing through the sprinklers on occasion was quite refreshing. Makes me look forward to getting more done tomorrow.

That's what does it here. A faint breeze between the peaks or through the valleys adds up to miles difference in where a system will wind up. I've learned that anything less than a 30% chance of rain just means a few drops if any, but anything over 50% you brace for it to get muggy. Other than that, we place bets on which end of town will get whatever they forecast.
Lately it's been the south side, which is good for more dad's field, but not for my garden.

This is weird. The rain came in from the east with a nice breeze. Then it started slowing down. Now it's raining harder than ever, and a strong breeze/wind straight out of the west.

YAHOOOOO! LET'S GOOOOO!

After 30 minutes of hard rain, they still think it's partly cloudy and 4% chance for rain. 20240718_104409.jpg
@ShadyStump, you're exactly right. This is the forecast for the same time, 12 miles from town.
