I’m surprised you said it’s better than Pumice, Pumice is the one substrate no one ever complains about or has any negative comments on. It’s great haha! But I would give this stuff a shot before akadama again though. I don’t know if it’s just the brand I used or what, but the akadama literally turned to mud in the majority of my trees pots. I also didn’t like the fine grain Turface too much either.

If it is, I am a criminal! Pumice is excellent for what it does, as is scoria, however, it's the other traits of DE that make it desirable.

Honestly, there were no fines in the samples I got. However, it could not hurt to sift it or even throw it up on a screen and wash it off.
