Noticed this and thought to pass it along. It will be a must attend, so save the date and get your accommodations early as they sell out. From their website: http://www.ncarboretum.org/plan-a-visit-or-event/events-and-plant-shows/carolina-bonsai-expo/

Carolina Bonsai Expo

Saturday, October 10, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday, October 11, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The North Carolina Arboretum will host the 20th annual Carolina Bonsai Expo Saturday and Sunday, October 10 and 11, 2015. Featuring juried exhibits by bonsai enthusiasts from a six-state region, a renowned bonsai marketplace, workshops, free demonstrations, and an ikebana exhibit provided by the Asheville Chapter of Ikebana International, the Expo is the premier annual bonsai event of the Southeast and the most popular plant show hosted by the Arboretum.

The Expo is also a perfect occasion to explore the Arboretum’s Bonsai Exhibition Garden, which offers a world-class display that innovatively establishes bonsai in the context of the Southern Appalachians. Deciduous bonsai specimens on display in the garden often feature brilliant autumn color during this time of year.

The Carolina Bonsai Expo is free for Arboretum Society members or with the standard parking fee ($12 per personal vehicle).

I'm visiting the arboretum the 24th/25th of this month, had to wait for the trees to wake up. Going to explore Asheville too.

What is the bonsai vendor that's there? I was pretty sure the arboretum has a small bonsai nursery and if I recall the hours it was open was odd. (Not during the expo, just normal days)

There is a gift shop that sells a few pots as a very small side but there is no nursery....

The arboretum does not have a bonsai nursery. There are normally over a dozen of the best vendors east of the Mississippi. And they bring great pots, bonsai, pre-bonsai, tools and various other items. Is a great show, but also during peak color in the mountains. Because of this the motels fill up weeks if not months in advance.

I have touched base with Arthur and don't know how much of the collection will be in display at the end of this month. They can have freezing temps through April up there.

Oh I hadn't thought about that. Thanks for the heads up.
