Pseudocydonia, Chinese Quince

I really like it. I think you’ve done an excellent job working with the tree. The tree is telling you what it wants to be. I love that pot too!

Thanks, it’s definitely been a slow go, and is an unusual species. At this point it’s looking like a 30-year project, and I’m halfway there.

I think the bark on these is so beautiful that I prefer bigger trunks so theres more of it to look at, thats what I plan to do with mine.

Boy howdy, it's like shotgunnin' a Jolt soda....so sweet!!

Bittersweet as the three we've had in the garden, we managed to kill. :(
Ya'll run across some in your travels, let the seller know that I'm here with more money than sense....I still got my Trump money!;)
Mine would start showing vegetative swelling in January, what's your experience in those terms?🤔
Container is somethin' else, really nice and shines well against the great color you've coaxed from the leaves.

Wicked awesome image. @Brian Van Fleet 😷😁

Thanks Lance. The color is probably going to be really good this year, if the weather holds.

This one does start early, seems like any time the weather is above 45f, buds start to swell, but I’ve never had a problem with late freezes Zapping the buds. The trickiest part is timing repotting so it’s late enough to avoid that last freeze, but early enough that it’s not leafed out.

Will keep you in mind if I stumble across another one. I do have a couple growing in the ground I’ve been ignoring for a couple years. Wonder how they're doing...

Awesome tree. I just got a small one. Did you find that it thickened fast in ground?
Congrats. They’re slow but worthwhile; check out the last 13 years covered in this thread and you can see how fast they thicken.

I don't know how many favorite species I can have... but this is one. I never found a single one in SoCal... but perhaps I didn't look hard enough? Now that I am in NoCar I have three - not bonsai, not pre-bonsai, but simply plants. However they are coloring up like crazy which is making me fall in love with them even more :)
