Hey @StoneCloud .....
I always wanted to send a ficus to Florida to watch it grow!

Well Hell fire!
Oh note. This dried fully bone dry a while back, no leaves, and the only moisture left was IN the cutting itself.
This is one of the best examples of GNF near death hacking in the early beginnings, that should never be looked at as "lost years", or, a "stick in a pot", its a stick in a Sorcihara Basket!
You can see how well that shit works here...
Well, you can't but I can...most of the dark is where roots hit the bottom, you can see that!
The cutting base was in the yellow just last year, when this was more alive, it rooted and swelled out to the green....View attachment 175273
The blue? Them new roots showing positive signs of life!
Because my basement SMELLS LIKE THE PENGUIN HOUSE!
You ever been to the penguin house?
Fish Shit!
That daily fish Has EVERYTHING GROWING!
This is the first time in six....8?years, that I have actually DEFINITIVELY witnessed Fert CAUSE growth.
Milestone!
So anyway....
See where this died back to...View attachment 175274
Pretty sure I see green at the right arrow, and bumping on the left. Orange is dieback line.
You see the excellent lean, bends, and taper this is causing?
How can I view this as anything but Perfect?
This is going to be a bitching ass little tree....
Even if it does need another, "year wasted layer"....cuz its going to be a bitching ass tree in 20 or thirty years, when the base is 8-12inches across, and the leaf size is appropriate...
These "years lost" bullshitisms....backwardisms...
This is exactly what our trees need to Actually become something great!
Maybe it's the Importing of finer trees, and the collecting of better material....but our trees are really starting to show their hurriedness.
This is it's recovery position.View attachment 175275
About 1 foot from the fluorescents, kept soaked, sometimes submerged...
Ideal would be having moss growing over the side, to just wick water up just enough all day, then I can keep it more consistent, never needing to submerge, always just keeping the tray filled to a more regular level.
So there....
A rant. Another rant. Proof to another rant.
And Slow down and speed up!

Ah! How long was it dried out for? I really like this tree and the movement in it so far is amazingly natural. In fact I love this little tree.
This may be a rant but I know exactly what you mean. 100%
IMO for a tree to really look like it struggled and went through YEARS of facing death.
YEARS of surviving no matter what is in it's way(kind of what we do)
It has to ACTUALLY do that.
Hence, the almost drug addict addiction to Yamadori in this art.
When this tree pulls through it will be for the better.
I don't baby my trees too much for this reason either. I want them to struggle a little and fight. I want them to dry out a little too much here and there. Get that bark and age going!!!!!
Thanks for the update on this tree. I've had it on my mind. I'm gonna have to come up there one day and see this fucker!!
This is going in a box as soon as temps warm up!
Slow down and speed up!
Hell yes they Actually have to struggle!
Hell yes faster bark!
They say trees bark up faster in a pot...
And people wonder why, as far as I know...
To me...
Its pretty clear....
If I take a large slab of clay and leave it out, it dries on the outside, and takes a while to dry fully.
A thin slab will dry rapidly and break easily.
Well...
The thinner the years Dead outside layer...the faster we see bark!

I myself am always working on that about me. I tend to over complicate things sometimes
