Pigletts Progress

Awesome! Love the tree, however i think it needs a more understated pot....I look at Walters tree and the tree is the star, when i see your tree, my eyes go from tree to pot and back n forth, it could be the colour, but i think the pot takes something away from your amazing tree. but thats just me:)

Nothing much to report here for the month, just a growing pig. Nothing doing but removal of wire, and continual removal of unwanted shoots. This one is too heavy to move around for photos, until it's got something new to show. But the canopy is getting the shape I'll look for, not that any of the tops of those branches will be kept. Hopefully this will be a color explosion in the fall!

Wow Judy that tree is powerful

Another month of growing. There is an interesting profile if I turn the tree counterclock a bit. I'm not sure if I like the view with the back buttress showing, or the waist shaped profile of the current front.
Thoughts?
I kind of like this as the front. It seems to have a more three dimensional feel to it and it makes the trunk look even thicker (if that's possible). You also get to see an additional root so you can stay away from those dreaded even numbers

I just wonder if it looks awkward as the other side doesn't have an echo of that shape. Probably just been looking at it from the current angle for long enough that it looks odd to me. Never heard that even numbers on roots are an issue, only trunks.

The even number thing was just a joke though there probably is some merit to it in Japanese culture. I don't think it looks awkward at all. To me it looks more natural and not mirrored on each side. However, I'm not saying the other profile isn't captivating as it is.

The little piggy is growing like a bad weed under your care Judy. Not so little piggy. Wheeeeeeeee!

Too late where I am to cut anything. I'll wait till late late fall and cut it back so I can fit it into winter storage. Can't wait to see fall color.

Looks like this one will reduce leaves pretty easy too, another bonus. I was looking at the pot with bobby's comments in mind. I don't think it's too dramatic for the tree, it's at least a nice serious color in keeping with the heaviness of the base. I think what I see is a lack of patina, and how shiny it is. I think that if it ever develops some patina, that it will be a better fit.
