OUTDOOR PROPOGATION USING DIFFERENT HYDROPONIC GROWING MEDIA

Clonex will rock seedlings for sure…..and ccuttings
Awesome thanks! Got a few trident cuttings in rock wool calloused. They should start rooting any day now

Sourced the ebb and flo system(diy all the way).

Absolutely do not buy a $150 resevoir lol.
I will say the actuall tray on top is worth buying so it drains fully with the indented slots in the bottom.

I will get a tote from walmart for a resevoir.
The low pressure pumps will do fine for intermitent circulation and mixing nutrient for that matter!

Fairly cheap build that will pay great dividends in time.
I will only need to to off with water and ph daily……drain every once in a while and replenish.
Easy peasy!!!!
Stonewool all the way.

I will stand on smart trays to continue the airpruning from the bottoms of stonewool cubes.

UP-POTTED SOME PINES

These will be sold at end of season.
I am looking to get the business into gear again with the possibility of being almost fully automated.Actually have time with working in new career also.
Have about 300 of them and they will be good size by end of season and very healthy from the season outdoors. The natural sun cycles through the season will work wonders for these.

Slipped more of them into the 3” mini blocks……will do a few a week. These are looking fantastic to me and will only get better…… very low feed so they get strong naturally and will REALLY take off next season in y’all’s hands!!!!

As for the other little immature ones, they will shape up nicely, but unfortunately have hopelessly mixed the red and black pines……I guess they will be able to be destinguished from one another when the terminal bud sets. The good thing is that entire flates are same variety…..did not mix up that much.

Chaenomeles -girdling

See what kind of rooting happens. No reason why these cannot be grown for foliage and then flowering in about 5 yrs or so.
See what is faster…aeroponic or this outdoor method( no root disturbance).
The Gro-wool is great with this.

OK CANNOT RESIST….Gonna’ ebb and flow the whole outdoor production area too.

I will have to store water under the skirting of the home as it keeps water at about 75f…….maximum really to my liking.I will aerate the resevoir continuously with an airstone or circulation pump.
Will have to use about 30 feet of hose to reach the table, but is the only way in this heat.
Got a 2x4 tray to start.
Less work more fun!!!!!
= happier lady too 🤫

The Kabudachi are greening up after changing to a regular grow nutrient with a slightly higher potassium to nitrogen ratio……still only .4 ec( very very mild),but lots of calmag and bio-stimulants.Slow growth lots of energy build before sale later in season.
255 or so.

The little ones on left are Red Pines!!!
They will go indoors in co2 when I get the indoor ebb and flow going this week. They will greatly benefit and get up to size before sale with the added co2 fertilization and give them a beneficial great start……..just starting to get the healthy green……a few more days.

How big is your reservoir? I have seen people cooling pools with a system similar to the one used in nuclear plants, if you have a 55 gal tank you could build a set up with a small pump and a line of misters mounted on a pvc line.

Nice…..I just use a cubic inch to gallon conversin calculator…..and get a 15 or so gallon tote from walmart for resevoir and flood a proper ebb and flo tray about 3-4” on a timer.
Put the tray on my tables and the tote underneath……can use an air stone or really low pressure submersible pump to circulate…….just turn on circulater and add the hydro nutrients.

Just run an 12 guage extension outside and probably have four units of 2x4 trays.

It fills in one spout and drains by another spout a few inches higher and circulates about 10 minutes then timer shuts of submersible pump and table drains back through the pump it back to resevoir.
Compmete automation.

I was worried about watering with 88° water but as long as it’s aerated with the circulator pump or air stones it doesn’t matter because within a half hour these cubes are hot to the touch anyway my Rockwall cubes.

hot water can turn aerobic because it holds less oxygen but in a drain or a flood with aerated water it just doesn’t matter in my eyes.

trey resevoir and pumps you’re probably looking at less than $100 for a 2 x 4 not bad really.

Mix nutrient solution every 7 to 10 days can’t wait man no more work

first roots in the aero cloner-11 days!!!!

So if radial I will say this is worth doing…..although I will see how a crop of bigger seedlings do also first.
if not just pruning the remaining (500) seedlings into some mini blocks will suffice. I just want a nice squat radial root flared Japanese maple and such …….the Japanese maples are the first to be pushing roots I’ll take a picture in a bit.little nubs

ok……..perhaps another batch of more mature seedlings.

Maybe another batch of big ones as they seem to root better.
We’ll see how these are in a week.
Japanese maples……The tridents are beginning too.The elms are also, but not sure of the Elm seed I was supplied this season….seems wvery one was prone to blackspot……all other seedling species were fine.

Up in the air if this is beneficial.Perhaps a sprout getting air-pruned continually from the bottom of a Grodan mini block is more than enough rooting for a good start on nebari.Have to decide yet.

I do have plans for deciduous indoors with the ebb in flow. They will grow very slowly and low ec nutrient with enhanced blue lights to hopefully make a very energetic seedling ready to burst into growth.
In a week actually to start them.

I actually may bail on the aeroponics ringbarking except for larger seedlings ….This will be a flatter nebari…...this could prove more beneficial……Look how fast !!!!
And no taproot!!!
Yes just for bigger seedlings……these tiny’s were a test.

I need to get one of this cloners. I have a trident that I am about to start cutting elongating shoots soon... I could make a fused trunk with those in a few years or use them as grafts.

My first ebb and flow

I like this alot!!!
Very easy working.Only if I could find the perfect tray to fit the tent.At least better fitting risers for air-pruning the mini blocks.

Very easy mixing.I submerse a 398 gal/hr pump to circulate while adding the nutrients…..NO MORE STIRRING.
This should last a good 10 days with topping off the resevoir daily perhaps with half strength or plain water.
About 8 gallons in the resevoir total.
Too easy.Very happy.
Digging the aerated water.

These are Red Pines that could use a boost before sale.

Hi @cmeg1
Very impressive.
I was wondering how you see these roots ever becoming free from the rock wool? Does it eventually deteriorate?
Sorry if this was mentioned before, there is a lot of technical info in these posts that fog me out.

The rock wool goes nowhere actually…It is basalt stone. If anything it may get wash away over years ,then be no more than exposed root if above soil line.
Honestly after a couple seasons literally disappears relatively in terms of a root girth and trunk gearth if anything in the early stages I think it would be very beneficial in the center of a colander like a 3 inch block stonewool even……Moisture is very helpful in a colander or any air pruning type container in the early stages as they commonly dry out and can stop the growth considerably …..roots and trunk will just inevitably take over ……. And stonewoll become obsolete………..organic may clog things if they are allowed to get bone dry ,but they are always moist with fresh clean water being poured over cakes I think there’s no problem whatsoever.

These get very dense with roots and suck up the water in no time I water mine daily if I don’t they keel over from dryness. Airpruning is bigtime and they get considerably dense very quick with roots.I have found in hydroponic absorbing medias wetness is always good when the bottom is air pruned or freely drained out

Ok ,got the outdoor ebb and flow roughed out.

Tomorrow I will level the actual table it rests on as now there is a bit of sag in the center and floods too high there.
Once leveled in the morning it will be the bomb….and look nicer too.
it is working now though……20 gallons it takes to work proper.
Just ran a 100’ extension cord out a window to power the air pump and sub pump and a timer.Just put the devi es in a small bucket with a lid to stay dry.
I love this thing.
Apilogize it was actually getting dark at photo time and a tad blurry.

ok ,leveled up I like this alot better

Perfectly stable base and even flooding. That way leaves do not get nutrient on them.
I will go get some t or y valves to split the lines so rain cannot flood and drain into the nutrient.
See how long these can go without changing.I have hear of anywhere between 7-10 day to a month. These are not particularly greedy.I will need to moniter EC and fill with either pure water or a very week strength. And moniter water level too.

Some Japanese Maple Mini -Forest starters.

I have alot of Green Japanese Maple seedlings that were grown in flats in Grow Wool.
I figure Forest starters be the way to go. 3,5,7 & 9 trees I used.
Will pot a few every evening and fill the indoor tents.
Hopefully very controlled and stunted growth so they just gain in strength and girth slowly.

Limited light and strong in the blue wavelength with some root starter fertilizer at about .5 ec
ALL WENT INDOORS….INTO CO2 FERTILIZATIONAND A CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT.They should pull through nicely!!!

An odd one

Saved this one.Has very odd fused growth and branch clumps. And some alternating going on with the petioles……..really just curious.
