What tree species is that?Another tree I found quite interesting in Hawaii.
I can't tell if this was one tree or two. The two trunks look like they are lovingly embracing each other to death.View attachment 489843
I couldn't tell you unfortunately. The canopy was pretty high up and I didn't take a picture for it. Some sort of tropical that puts out aerial rootsWhat tree species is that?
I've seen something
I saw this one in a forest up north, it's similar, I just assumed it got hit by lightning. Your photo is super weird though.

I have seen some that look like that too.Wonder if some of these might be the result of this...... https://www.harborclub.com/blog/bent-trees
I don't think that explains the ones posted, but I recall a thread someone started where they were working on replicating these.Wonder if some of these might be the result of this...... https://www.harborclub.com/blog/bent-trees
The little Osage is taking on its shape nicely. I will snap a few pictures and update that thread sometime in the next few days.I don't think that explains the ones posted, but I recall a thread someone started where they were working on replicating these.

Some of the ones in the pictures look like they were crushed by other trees in their life. Makes for very interesting twisted trees.
How long was that hike? All day? Half a day? I'm visiting the U.P this Autumn and would like to see Chapel Rock, but I've got a tight schedule. Won't have time for too many long hikes.Another pic from the beach. Beautiful hike, one of my favorite.
Maybe inverse canker...Inverse taper

It's about 3 miles in and 3 miles back. We stopped to see Chapel Waterfall & went down to the beach for lunch. We weren't in a hurry and spent about 3 hours there, before we moved on to our next waterfall destination. How long was that hike? All day? Half a day? It looks like a species of strangler fig on its host tree.I couldn't tell you unfortunately. The canopy was pretty high up and I didn't take a picture for it. Some sort of tropical that puts out aerial roots
