MY GARDEN, SHARE YOURS

Early morning in the garden. Just about my favorite time of the day.

Can I ask where you got that cistern (is that the right name for it) in the second photo? Is it recycling the water from the bowl to pour out the bamboo?

Lovely garden as always

I got the planter at a local nursery. Made of molded concrete but don't remember the maker. Since it was meant to be used as a patio planter I had to plug the drainage hole with two-part epoxy. The system is on a simple loop. The water gets recycled via a small pump and goes back out from the bamboo spout.

Awesome. I’ve been wanting to get something for water like that but have been concerned about the standing water being a mosquito breeding ground - aside from being pretty, it should solve for that as well!

Will need to keep my eyes peeled.

Not the prettiest, but at least I mowed (most) of the lawn. This is where the magic happens.

I really like your garden design and a lot of your trees. Perhaps someday I will construct a swamp version of this.

Would love to see that! Maybe have a small pond with a bunch of bald cypress planted in there complemented with a big 'ol copper gator sculpture.

Summer just around the corner as spring madness slows down.

Obviously, your trees, garden, design & photography are super amazing... but, I too am amazed by the maintenance and cleanliness. Must be a ton of work!

My yard is a fraction of the size of yours (a typical SoCal track-home yard, 50' wide); but it's still a ton of work to maintain, prune, weed and clean.

Maintenance is what really makes a Japanese garden... just like bonsai, it's a living thing, and needs constant upkeep to maintain its' beauty.

You can spend a million dollars and have a professional Japanese garden designer make it... but, it's not gonna stay that way for long (esp. the constant pruning, & also fell leaves/debris & weeds).

Thank you! And yes it does require a lot of work for sure. When something gets done, something else needs attention and so on 😥The garden is a living breathing entity that must be looked after much like the trees themselves. My good apprentice Sal (@Tidal Bonsai) has been wonderful in helping out whenever I can get him here. I can easily understand why in Japan they often have many apprentices working the garden 24/7!!

Yup! Always something needs to be done (makes you really appreciate the nice break during winter) ...June 15th is coming up ...candle pruning time for my 6 JBP niwaki 😵‍💫

...at least they're only small, 6' tall JBP garden trees (and not massive 10'-30' JBPs like in Japan), haha.
