So while I was looking for the right tree to plant in my coconut a couple of weeks ago, I must’ve clicked the wrong buttons because I can’t read Chinese properly.
This is what I ordered...

And that’s what arrived. It’s small, twisty and has got great potential.

Today the security guards told me to pick up my package, which had me perplexed as I didn’t order anything. Low and behold, this was there with my name on it...

This is how much space I have for it, and it’s for this reason why the smaller one is more ideal.CB460DAF-13C0-491A-B4EA-784B435C438D.jpeg
Anyways, I’ll learn to love it and take care for it, maybe the cascading thing will grow on me.

Don’t judge the pot, it came bare rooted and this was all I had.
Also, I’m aiming to reduce this tree’s size over time since it’s bigger that what my lifestyle and available space allows. I’ve tried to “borrow” some ground for my trees to grow freely for a few years, but that endeavour has been fruitless so far.

Sweet deal......BOGOF.

@Anthony hahaha ive learned that before, just ask : 那儿有卫生间?
I like my twisty little pine, less fond of this cascade thing. I’ll try to get it more twisty near the base, and then do all the magic tricks to induse some back buds (wishful thinking, I know) and then chop this thing a lot smaller. The supplier did put some twists in the branches because they’re extremely leggy. This thing is like an octopus or a stick insect, definitely not a fan

I actually like the freebie. It may grow on you (haha) for sure.

I’m reading up and educating myself as much as possible about grafting. Either that or get high hopes for back buds.
Grafting is gonna be tricky because I don’t have much to work with. My tree has an apex and 4 branches. Here’s a brief breakdown of what I have...

This seems to be a healthy-ish, strong-ish apex

Top branches have a bud or 2 each, no probs, right

But now, the bottom branches

They have no buds at all, candles got cut off. To my knowledge, it seemed like an incredibly stupid thing to do.
Grafting season is only from March/April I know, but I get curious about things. Or should I just fertilise the shiznit out of this thing and hope for back buds this year?

Someday, someone's gonna get wire to backbud and start a whole new world of re-thinking. 🤪

not my wire, but I’m terribly tempted to chop it shorter so I could do away with these terrible leggy spaghetti branches
Occasionally I'll slip up and get a couple twists too close together. They're a bitch to clip off. Trying 2 at a time is frustrating.
