Japanese Maple Cuttings

Can I take advantage of this post and ask if this one is a Japanese Maple?

Sure looks that way 🤓
Yeah I know, lol, I should have been more specific.

I guess I already knew that it was, I wanted to ask about this variety's ability to root cuttings. As you can see, I could take a ton of them and not even dent the surface of this tree/shrub.

If it were mine, I'd have dug it up a while ago... you should see its trunk.

If you know what you’re doing. I have Had better success with air layers than cuttings myself

I'll have to get permission but I should be able to do that. I have no experience with air-layering.. sounds pretty straight forward though.

You probably better off in spring to try air layer. You could try some cuttings now but not sure how that would be right now. Not much to lose

I might try a few, just because.
I've recently had success with Magnolia and Dogwood. I have no idea what the difficulty rating is but they're my first real success and I'm excited.

I managed one Kousa Dogwood (Cornus kousa) out of four cuttings, a second may still be alive.

And I now have four rooted Magnolia, out of eight that I took. They're Sweetbay Magnolia (Magnolia virginiana) but still.. all have new and healthy growth. 😁

The temp here in Columbus is starting to drop, I'll try in a week or two.

I have had a few cuttings take but more failure than success as often vacation ruins them when I’m back as I can’t keep moist while gone. Had couple that were tropical started indoors amd while it took forever to root finally did well. A buhdist pine which not sure the correct name of that tree.

That's too bad... have any friendly neighbors who could watch them when you're gone?
