Japanese Maple cuttings [From start to finish: A Guide]

Bonsai Nut even set it up so we can all see exactly how many comments are made, and how many reactions we get... essentially creating a class system within the site. It's like "MySpace" all over again.
People won't react to what I have to say for the simple fact that my reactions score is abysmal. And My reaction score is low because 90% of the experienced growers here won't give you any kind of reaction, maintaining their status on the site, and mine.

Bonsai Nut won't even try to improve newbies' standing within the community. That Bravura guy was a dick, but this site isn't exactly worth joining unless you're an expert already. ;)
I've found the forums quite useful personally, I only started getting into bonsai earlier this year. There's a couple weirdos and people who rub me the wrong way, but I think that's probably a "me" problem and they're likely nice people in their own right in person.

That message you quoted was written in 2021... 5,000 does not sound like very many to me any more, I now do quite a bit more than that when it comes to Acer palmatum alone

I supply bonsai professionals, nurseries, clubs/societies, and hobbyists across the USA and Canada. To give you a random example, somebody hosting a multi-day workshop with ~15 people/day to create forest or kadudachi compositions could easily order 500-1000 trees (That's 1 order, from 1 professional or nursery in 1 small region of 2 very large countries).

I myself also go through a ton of them because I firmly believe that one way to end up with really good single-trunk trees is to start with 7-10 trees feeding into the nebari. I attached 2 pictures that I took when I was at Scube this spring -- this is a snapshot of a later step in the process, but the same concept can be applied right from the start. To get back to your question -- I myself require +1000 trees per year for starting and maintaining long-term projects. Sure I can use seedlings, but I prefer to use cuttings because I know exactly what i'm dealing with.
Very cool. 👍

Why won't this thread just die..

@Canada Bonsai runs a bonsai nursery
You know, if Bonsai Nut would allow us, I'm sure there are a lot of posts (mistakes) people would love to take down so they weren't judged by their worst day for the rest of their time on this site. Or comments.

One or two I'd like to retract myself....

It sucks having to be reminded daily about shit you wish had never happened. This thread should die.

Well, that's an awfully magnanimous perspective. I appreciate that, but you've obviously not been put on the wrong side of a conversation yet.

Present the wrong picture, even, and you'll get a lot of condescension. Use the wrong terminology and you automatically fail. People here respond with impatience rather than excitement.

🤷‍♂️ Been my experience anyway...

@Attmos I've been a member for 4 years, since I started my bonsai journey.

I'm sorry you haven't had a great experience here.

I always try very hard to treat everyone with the utmost respect, dignity, modesty, kindness, and thankfulness for helping me. In turn, I have received the exact same respect and kindness.

There were times, early on, when I thought certain folks were being harsh, but I quickly realized that they were merely giving me their best version of truth, even if it wasn't necessarily what I wanted to hear.

Overall, this is one of the absolute nicest, kindest, and most helpful forums on the internet. The VAST majority of commenters are highly decent people. During times of political turmoil when most other websites are filled with vitriol, anger, and snarkiness, I come here to look at beautiful trees and get advice for my own.

The reaction score is only viewable on the side of the posts in the desktop version of the site. Mobile users cannot see it and they make up over 58% of global web traffic. The reaction score is just showing that others are interacting with what you are saying.

The main reason people may not be having positive interactions is because they aren't giving positive interactions. I'm just observing a lot of assumptions in this thread. The best way to get encouragement is to encourage others.

Just read through the first pages of this thread due to curiosity, obviously one of the most terrific and aggressive threads I've ever read on here... Gave me sort of the vibe of these "Scammer gets triggered" videos on YouTube, just insane how some people react, to simple answers. Interesting...
