Japanese Flowering Quince cuttings in training.

Hi Greg,
I did cutting around March to April. To take cutting from this particular specimen, it is little tricky. If you want to get the offspring with all kind of color, I don't think you can do cutting! It must be air laying!

I was thinking of my chojubai...

Sorry if this has already been asked but when do your toyo nishiki bloom?
It depends on where I put my tree in the garden. The one placed in the eastside which received 3 hours of sunlight daily will bloom in about 2 weeks. The one placed in the site received one hour of sunlight daily will bloom late when the daylight hour is getting longer.

Oh, I tried cutting on Chojubai last year. All of cuttings died! It is too dry in my area. I plan to separate the shoots from roots this year. Let see if it is successful or not! :(

This is one of mother's branch. The mom has been receiving about 1 hour of sunlight daily but I just found one group of flower bud this afternoon.

As usual, a group of three. One is red, one is white and red, the smallest one is possible red stripe!

Last week I transplanted two Nichi-Getsu-Sei quince cuttings to clay pots.
Yesterday, one of them had those buds. Their characteristics are very special! I am looking forward to seeing the flowers. I am guessing the those flowers will be similar to the satsuki!

For the Nichi-Getsu-Sei quince, I found out that one branch can only have red flowers.

Other branch can have white, red, red stripe combined.

The flower bud is getting longer.

Today is the last day of the Lunar year 2015. Tomorrow will be the first day of the Lunar year 2016 to which Vietnamese calls "Mồng một Tết".
This quince is full-blown today! I bring it inside to celebrate Tết!

Look at this branch, it reminds me "fire crackle" which I loved to play with during the Tết, when I was teen !!!
