Japanese Flowering Quince cuttings in training.

I found a group of flowers on one of air-layered Toyo nishiki "Nichi-Getsu-Sei" this morning.
It has salmon pink color with a thin white band around the petal edges!!! So sweet. This is the first time I saw this color in my flowering quinces!

I, myself, consider Toyo nishiki "Nichi-Getsu-Sei" is the queen of the flowering quinces! :)

Just repotted 6 I got from seeds.

I don't remember which ones were from 'Nivalis', or the two other potted varieties that I have (mostly "pink salmon" colour) and the one from the plain species (red).

I hope that they hybridized. I kept all the pots under the plain species, close to each others so that the bees and insects and the wind might fertilize another variety. Perhaps I can have new colours, but it's more about gardening than bonsai so far.

It's a bit like when I plant maple seeds from my garden (I have over 20 J. maples cultivars, but much fewer producing seeds) : who doesn't hope for the "unusual seedling"?...

Hi AlainK,
I hope so.
Yes, I believe hybrid is better than pureness.

I have another kind of flowering quince admitted to my collection today!
My teacher just gifted me this contorted quince. He calls it as Unryu quince. Unryu means Cloud Dragon in Japan. I compared its branch characteristic with Namnhi 's contorted quince in post # 180 . They have a different look!

We went by there yesterday. They had some contorted red, but nothing that looked very good.

I think Brent may have some (Evergreen Gardenworks)
Mt. Fuji Nursery in Uplands had some very nice contorted white and contorted pink/salmon for around $29 I believe. They are in Uplands I think.
