Itoigawa juniper Stock

I think it would look better without the jin

I think it would look better without the jin
Maybe. But it’s staying for now for several reasons:
1. I like the reminder of the original stock I received from Brent.

2. It can only be removed once.
3. The tree could be a little too “vanilla” without a characteristic that is a little different, memorable, or even controversial.
4. The Jin extends from the soil all the way to the top on the back side, so it would be difficult to find an appropriate point to break it off. Traditionally, Jin that extends outside the profile of the foliage and sets a limit beyond which the foliage should not extend. Here is a shot of the back of the tree:

Oh no, don't remove that deadwood!:oops:o_Oo_O That's the 151-soaked "cherry on top"!!

Maybe your "10,000 title" should have been ten-jin van fleet? Sensing a theme with the smaller, developing Juniper barely visible in the previous photo. When done correctly and tastefully, deadwood in the crown really takes a tree to a higher level. This tree is great. And would be lessened with the "deadwood delete" option..... 😘

...that's what it's called, right, ten-jin? And not "deadwood thingy up top? 😁 😁 😁 😁

Great progression and top-shelf technique.

Spent a little time on this Itoigawa over the weekend. It seems to be maturing nicely, and the pot is good, but not great. Still hunting for just the perfect antique red clay pot...not that I have anything specific in mind...?
Before scrubbing, pruning, wiring, and mossing:

This is fantastic progression from where it started out at. So nice

Thank you
Yeah; it is a bonsai in the strictest definition of the term, being a tree in a pot, but it would not be allowed in a show greater than a local club show. It is over grown, the top is too large for the size of the trunk and the trunk is not even visable so it is more like a bush, sorry.

Obviously the foliage is styled that this is not the front but I do like the impact on the jin from this side.

Link to feeding plan gone now. Is it still out there somewhere?

What a journey! Got any 2021 pics?
I repotted it this year, and haven’t otherwise done anything with it since the last update, so it looks pretty shaggy right now. I’ll probably detail wire it again in the fall or winter. My junipers are all pretty slow this year, so we’ll have to play that by ear. Still searching for just the right pot.
