Along with spectacular bonsai and Penjing the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum has beautiful suiseki and scholars stones in it collection. If your a chrysanthemum stone (kikkaseki) lover you will recognize the value in the almost shoulder high stone in the display area of the museum 😁

Love Chrysanthemum stones. Appreciate your sharing.

Are those giant barnacles on the rock?
No. Chrysanthemum stones are a kind of suiseki. The “stone flowers” are naturally occurring mineral inclusions in another stone type. Chrysanthemums are symbols of the Japanese see royal family, longevity and rejuvenation. They typically are palm to softball size. those are not all that common. A stone like the one here is quite rare

Thanks for the education...The whole time I thought Chrysanthemum stones are fossilized Chrysanthemum.

Just gorgeous. I didn't go into that display area when there last, guess I missed out on that!

There is a Chinese Scholars room and a formal Japanese tokoname display around the corner. Always really interesting stuff in both. Easy to miss but seek them out.
