elaeagnus ebbingei

It grew good since the first round and i noticed there were already some new buds starting to open so i gave it another chop !

I now have to decide what way to go with it but id like to see the roots first since that might help to pick a front
We have a very mild winter so far and i am able to keep it frost free if it realy gets cold again :)
when i lifted it out of the pot i saw white tips at the roots so its actively growing so i will be able to repot it soon :D

I didnt come around to repot this one because lack of time but i did chop off one big branch and shorten the whole thing some more past spring

It does heal the wound nicely tough and i am still left to remove two big branches to get the trunkline i want but seeing this makes me sure i know i got to take it down in steps to get the wound i will create by doing so to heal up good :)

Doing good, repotted this spring also removed one more trunk growing well
I'll try to post a picture later.
Havnt been online much indeed kinda bussy with my new job and my family also takes allot of my time :)

I just bought two from a local nursery. Pretty decent size with some movement in the trunk. Look forward to this fall to see if it flowers. The leaves are around 2” so not bad. I am going to try some hard wood cuttings this fall and see if they take.

Hi do you have photos of the old cut wounds? I am curious to see how well do they heal. Also, do you use cut past to aid the healing process?

no pics yet ill try to snap some later this week.
they do heal good tough, And yes i used wound paste on the cuts.
I would chop it after you repotted it so you will know whats bidden under the soil.
have fun they grow realy fast mine does best in semi shade

Thanks. Do you use putty or liquid on big cuts?

@roberthu
here the healing, note i left a branch above and below the wound.
also dont chop all unwanted big branches/sub trunks in one go as die back might happen reduce it in steps is my advice

and it grew allot i pruned it back twice but probably all the green that is visible now will be chopped in the future anyway

Awesome! Thank you for the photo update. Not cutting all branches and leaving some growth above and below the cut site is a great tip!
I think I will follow Ryan Neil's tip and leave a stub when I cut a big branch off. I will revisit the cut and do the final cut once the "shoulder" between the dead branch and the trunk has formed.

I just chopped mine down this week. Don't plan on repotting this year yet as the soil seems to be draining well. I will clean up the soil surface and start fertilizing tomorrow. How is yours doing?

Can you give an update please? Got inspired and bought one this week

This one didnt progress much to be honest.
Its been neglected for about 3 years except for keeping it watered i didnt do much with it but its alive and blooming now smells realy nice.
In spring ill either airlayer the last remaining sub trunk or Just remove it cut it back hard and its in need of a repot maybe slightly bigger pot and then let it go wild again.

Borrowing your thread: how similar to pungens is ebbingei? Are the Leafs almost identical? Other differences?

I have an ebbingei in the ground where I live but wonder how the pungens would compare
