Mid summer last year I found this elaeagnus on the side of the road. It was among a bunch of other brush and I recognized the unusual leaves. It had been mowed down to about 4" high and was a tangled, splintered mess with a dozen 3 foot sprouts coming straight up out of the stump. I pruned it back and marked it for collection this January. I put it in this big grow container and it has been growing well. I carved down the nasty bits and bent the sprouts I kept down to give them some shape. Still a long ways to go. Don't know as I've ever seen a 4" elaeagnus in a nursery anywhere.

Beautiful! Elaeagnus is my short list of trees I’d like to add to my collection. I wish there was more broadleaf evergreens to collect in the NW. Keep us posted!

Well, thanks, but it’s not too beautiful yet. It’s got a ways to go. The way it’s growing though , it should be looking a lot better towards the end of our long growing season.

Any update on this please?

Here ya go, Berra.

70-80% organic soil. Mostly ramified by pruning just the most vigorous branches. Branches pulled down by guy wires and by manually bending on an on-going basis.
