Eastern Redbud Cercis Canadensis

I just love these early flowering trees in the spring. First sign of life in the woods.

Had to have one this spring but had to buy a seedling. Been on the lookout for a collectable one.

I didn't know they had a fall surprise for me.

Love to see any members Redbud if you have one. Or even some tips for a newish guy.

Bump - just got two of these planted in the back of the property. How is your specimen doing? 😃
Wife is nudging me to try to layer one.

I'll have to let you know in a month or so when I head back North. Hope it's still kickin:) I don't wanna go up till the butter gets soft.1740009946371.png

I'd love to find a nice elegant one to dig up for a literati, tends to be their natural growth habit I have always noticed, with a long flat pad at the top usually.

IMO they won't layer or like being dug but.... pretty fussy bout root work.

I've only collected one of them and it has done pretty well. Was one of my first collects ever (went right into a bonsai pot), so probably shouldn't have done well. Do they have roots like an oak (big tap root) that causes the issues?20240814_201350.jpg20240814_201200.jpg
