5yr Native Tree Challenge - Zanduh's Cercis Canadensis (Eastern Redbud)

So fun fact, the blossoms from the redbud can be brewed into a tea which can then be made into a jelly! This batch contains the few from my bonsai this spring and the rest from a tree nearby.

pretty amazing! we make a lot of jams and this one is almost like a fruit punch for lack of better words

A very late time for the flowers to start blooming! The leaf buds are already starting up and down the branches

Unfortunate news: my tree is pretty much dead. I had to unexpectedly leave for about two weeks and all the leaves are shriveled up now that I’ve returned. The person I had take care of them said she watered as I asked, and my maples all seem fine. The species is notorious for bad behavior but this seems pretty sudden.

A bummer but since it’s still 2021 I’ll locate a new untrained tree to work with and start over.
