Dwarf JWP

I saw a Dwarf japanese white pine at my local nursery and I'm curious to know if you guys think DJWP are any good for bonsai. I've read that dwarf varieties in general are bad for bonsai.

wasn't cheap either, $149 for a plant 18" high.

Not all dwarfs are equal.
Two questions:
1. Was there a variety name?
2. Is it grafted. Graft sites are usually the negative issue when working with dwarf pines.

I should have snapped a few photos with my blackberry. It's definately grafted and the surface roots caught my eye. There was only two to pick from and I'm not sure if either was worth it. I'm more curious about the usage of the plant in general. I'll grab some more info on my way home tomorrow.
