Colors of Fall

the three in my collection with the best color: Maple, hornbeam, zelcova. Nice to catch them at their peak. Some azaleas are turning, but most elms are either full green or all yellow and dropping leaves.

I know this isn't bonsai, but it has many colors of Fall. There's a local mountain I love to hike up, as the view at the top is just incredible...

I picked up photography shortly after my surgery and it's sort of become a fun little hobby to do on the side...

Love them Ryan! Incredible view!

My hedge maples are finally getting some good color. They didn't start changing until way later than my others!

Alright, back to something more pleasant. My camellia (variety 'Yuletide') is blooming a little early this year. We fell in love with camellias when we lived in Virginia and 'yuletide' has always has been one of my favorites...single deep red flowers with offsetting yellow stamens. This plant came from a beginner class with Bill Valavanis and I've been working on it only for a couple of years...so it has a long way to go style-wise, but I can still enjoy the flowers. Hope you do too! If it gets to a point where there are a bunch of flowers open at once (only 2 right now), I'll take another shot. The flowers are on the back side, the third photo shows the view from the front...sorry the lighting isn't the greatest.

Chris

Any ideas why one climate gets to enjoy fall colors and one does not? My trees go from nice green to half brown half fall colors every year. Never totally fall colors first. I had a trident one time go to very pretty yellow, but that was the only time. I would love to see my Japanese maple landscape trees and bonsai in true fall colors. Thanks for everyone's posts. Truly beautiful.

Maybe the dessication of the leaf petiole has to be more abrupt so the juices actually get trapped in the leaf.

Thanks Cmeg1 just looked that up. It probably has to do with the 100 plus temps we receive in August and half of September along with winds. Note to self I will put a few in a no wind zone next year to see if it helps as the pots never dry out. Funny my tropicals love that time of year. Just not enough winter storage to have more. Hopefully I will have some pics for next year.

Here are some from my garden, a little bonsai and little landscaped trees. First up is the initial color changes to a coral bark maple landscape tree. It'll turn a bright golden color eventually. Second and third are my JM's. And lastly, a red JM tree in the front. Incred. color.
