CM BONSAI!!

Yea,plant the cube now or spring, just remove the plastic and do not disturb the stonewool or roots at all……..the cubes can freeze just fine
Mine were supposed to arrive Saturday but the post office messed up and sent them on to another town instead of out for delivery. Kind of annoying they made it to my local post office and then got sent away... hopefully they wil;l make it here before they dry out. I'm glad to hear they are packed well.
Drying will not be a problem they will stay wet for 30 days when the stonewool is wrapped in saran wrap………put in slight shade though for a week if in the post for more than 4 days and then i to the sun……siberian elm need sun….moreso than the chinese elm

Anyone else notice that even though they're elms, they have opposing buds instead of alternating?
@cmeg1, is that just amazing your method works that it puts out buds wherever it can? Because if so that's amazing 👌👌
Its a juvenile thing with these….it goes away.

These grow fast…….in full sun expect like nearly 2” trunks next Autumn if grown well.

Do you have any white or red pine?

They arrived on Weds, looking a little pale, but they still had plenty of water. I put them in the unheated greenhouse for now and they greened up again right away. And I will put them outside in a few days.

Lloads of pine in Spring

The ones I salvaged from the extreme heat event did not grow well.

I am propogating now though…….have a lot of time to grow many for spring……..last spring my ac was not up to par and I missed the ball on the swing.
Thanks!

Do you still have the salvaged ones I'd like a few of them.

I think I will just toss them in the cold frame to see what happens……..I have not been watering them………To me a pine without its terminal bud for winter is just to risky…..as far as effective time use

Looking forward to it!! Thanks for all your great work, Curtis.

Sounds good. I guess I'm lucky and we have no actual winter in New Orleans.

Do you take any active steps to encourage mycorrhizae to grow in the substrate of your pines? What level of mycorrhizae/mycelium do you observe when you work the roots?

I am a firm believer of both myco and bacteria………bacteria more because it is great in low npk hydroponic fertilizer as it helps break down root exudates and then to release npk directly on the roots for more feed with less salts.

Myco I have learned is only beneficial when using organic forms of phospherous like bone meal and such……….the plant will actually defend itself from myco’s for defense as a pathogen if it is being supplied with direct forms of phosphorous such as the mono ammonium phosphate forms and the like which are directly absorbed.

I’m curious specifically if you do anything in particular in your process to encourage these things. I ask because I’m setting up a small grow out selection, using Root Pouches that are heeled in pumice. One concerned mentioned by my teacher is that the pumice may not be as encouraging for mycorrhizae and bacteria as, for example, earth or pine bark.

Getting close to the warmer months of late January, February, and March and then here comes the Growing season at cmbonsai. I updated the ‘about’ description on the eBay store.

New this year…..I am preparing Siberian elm, ground layers also…..all in the grow house. Three months early should be fantastic starter material to make excellent bonsai.

I still want to do Zelkova Brooms had trouble finding viable seed. I harvested a ton of it from a local tree. They are starting to sprout. Let’s hope they’re viable and harvested at the right time. it’s only worth growing the zelkova in the growhouse for the special, super-dwarf characteristics that I can get in the grow house and I just don’t have an air conditioner for summer grow house growing, so hopefully the seeds that are sprouting now will be plenty and I can start now.

Kind Regards,
Thanks everyone!
Curtis

All of the trees I’ve bought from you previously have been exceptional.

The seedling cuttings of Japanese pine have the lowest set branches of any pine tree. I’ve grown.

Some of them look like it’s two trees coming out of the ground.

Two of them I’m keeping short and using All the branches as sacrifice one at a time.

Going to try to keep the truck 2 to 3 inches tall and see how fat I can get it would you do is pretty remarkable.

Can’t wait to see your offerings.

Thank you for being an exceptional brow.

I’d love to pick your brain how you do it. I also took that Dutch method course, but thought it was a lot of pinch of this and a pinch of that seems to work rather than straight on technique.

I’ve been growing it and be well,

Mats H

Thanks @Drcuisine

Here is a little peek at what I have going on.
These reach a state where they are quite indestructable. They get rather green. My favorite is a low strength fertlizer. The stonewool promotes much fertilizer availablity and coupled with bio-stimulants and a low strength NPK they do great with a sort of sparten approach.Even outdoor too.
These are only at .6-.9 ec!!! Very early veg.

There are more cuttings rooting to fill this whole flood table and just enough time to get them to size in April.

These are quite durable little trees…..lots of calcium….

That is a great growcourse!!
Get a small tent and do some tests……6AC940D3-E547-4D28-98A4-B9FEE005D6AB.jpegED21F0B8-847E-436E-8002-C7788D0E6AF2.jpeg5EAB5BB9-FCE0-4AE1-B991-887565085996.jpeg6D996CA8-9E5E-489B-9F61-E814008BE0F4.jpeg66CF8A89-039F-486C-8346-3BBA3407131A.jpegD7F6FC88-BB10-40DD-99C7-734927487A36.jpegF6B63B3F-A7D0-4CE6-AFE5-B98F125752A0.jpeg4DC913F2-7835-48A7-9515-48DFF14D0953.jpeg34A1220B-17C6-4A69-B0B3-E4665E0DE1D9.jpeg
