Collected a bald cypress a few weeks ago. Letting it stand in water and "change it out" once a week to make sure roots are getting oxygen. If anybody that does this can help, I'm getting some nasty larvae calling my "swamp" home. How do you keep the creepy crawlers out of your muck?

These work very well and I've never had any issues with them harming plants. I use the version of he product that's like pepper flakes. Highly recommend for exactly the use you describe.

Mosquito dunks are a delivery method for the bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis, which infects mosquito larva (and other insects--works on tent caterpillars too, but they have to come in contact with the bacteria) and kills them. It's not harmful to much of anything else but insects. Won't harm plants at all.

For me I just put in 1/4 teaspoon of bifenthrin into the water. All bugs are killed. If you don't have bifenthrin handy, buy some Ortho Home Defense Max from Home Depot or Lowes. The active ingredient is mostly bifenthrin. A tiny bit of that into the water and the bugs will be gone.

PS: I see a bud in your picture. Good luck.

Thanks so much. Yeah, she's waking up after 2 weeks after collection. We're at the northern most range for them and just feel lucky to be able to have a few in my growing collection of trees.
